But I'd say that's more along the lines of "buy your own helmet cut away". I'd consider assembling a pad around the loop for easier mount and access - but it's simple and clean. "making" doesn't equal "assembling" However, that design is perfectly fine - one can go buy the right size pins and cotters, springs and....well, that's about it ...you need some kind of handle then just make sure to assemble it such that: 1 - the spring actively pushes the strap off of the pin 2 - everything is ordered to minimize another snag point (I prefer the assembly to be on the inside of the helmet, not outboard so we don't have something sticking out - spring pushes on the pin) ...
