4th mount point needed?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if 3 here is enough or if I should add a 4th mount point? See picture. These are 1/4" x 20's cut down so they are flush, I drilled and tapped the mount and have red thread lock to keep it all together. Just wondering if a 4th screw is needed or not. I left it out so as to not get in the way of the release action.

Thanks in advance,
BK

One is plenty for the mount. That's all that is holding the camera to the QR plate anyway. Just use a big washer or metal plate underneath so your fiberglas doesn't fail. When I used this QR, I used two 10-24 bolts (or 8-32, I don't remember).

P.S. Your bubbles aren't level.

If you have hard enough opening to break it loose the way you have it set up ,it won't matter anyways . You'll wish the helmet came off or the mount broke to save your neck??!!
:)
p. s. I only have 2 screws holding my mounts on.

A friend will bail you out of jail , a REAL friend will be sitting next to you in the cell slapping your hand saying "DUDE THAT WAS AWSUM " ................

Thanks, kind of what I figured too.

I would more or less agree with what others have said... but I would suggest that for mounting a QR mount 2 is better then one as it is less prone to twisting with two attachment points than it is with one.

I would agree with the others that it is a good idea to use washers as that will help distribute the load...

The screws are on the inside of the helmet coming back up through the base with washers under the heads. I assume that is what you meant?

yep... that's what I mean... That's exactly how I have my RRS mounts attached to my FTP... two screws up through the bottom into the plates (which come tapped for 1/4"-20 screws)
