Moving RAWA camera box?

Recommended Posts

A few options here.

--Move the helmet position on your head. (not sure about RAWA, but other helmets allow for baking of the liner to secure a particular fit.)

--Something I've done...put a couple of washers -in- the box, threaded over the bolts that secure the box down, to lift the front of the camera up. I had TRV cameras way back when (an 8 and a 10) side by side in identical boxes, but for some reason the 10 viewed low, so I stuck a couple of washers in there and it corrected the problem just fine.

--Final option---get a new rig. Some rigs have a high yoke which prevents a person from looking up very high. I know someone who had a Reflex that couldn't look up very far. Next rig was a Javelin which had a lower yoke and suddenly the problem was fixed.

Good luck with whatever you decide. As a cameraflyer we're always adjusting and playing with things. Don't be afraid to experiment. :^)

you may consider something like this:

More info can be found on http://www.tonfly.com
There are other companies that make the adjustable quick releases like that one.

Having said that, i use a Rawa helmet/box. In the box i have a PC1000, on top I have a Cookie Flat lock that i have used with a variety of cams (HC3, HC5, CX7 and a stills cam) for all kinds of flying. I never had issues with aiming.

i've seen one rawa box that had to be moved, it could even be seen on the helmet where the alignment mark had been made, and then the box installed about 10-degrees off of the mark.

The box is riveted to the helmet, so it had to be drilled out and then replaced with either another rivet, or a small bolt & nut.
