riggerrob 613 #1 September 6, 2004 My Platinum 0.2 wide angle lens arrived last week. Its 25 mm threads fit perfectly on my SONY HC 40. It has the same external dimensions as my Diamond 0.3 lens, but the 0.3 bulges out the front a little. The 0.3 also has a bit of "fish eye" distortion. The width of field is incredible! Andreas jokes that if his nose was any larger, it would appear in footage taken with his helmet-mounted 0.3! Hee! Hee! He also forgot to hinge his ring-sight down - once - and it appeared on the video! Hee! Hee! Unfortunately, I had to wait until Sunday for the clouds to clear. Then I wore it on my hand for 4 tandem jumps. We were so rushed that I only had time to show footage to one student, and he promptly bought it! We finished too late for me to edit the video, so more feedback to follow.
grega 0 #2 September 6, 2004 Where did you bought it? Do you maybe have a link to web page (if it exists)? "George just lucky i guess!"
sdctlc 0 #3 September 6, 2004 Rob, what was the cost of the 0.2. I thought you had your wsights on a 0.3 for some reason?? Anyway I am also curious what yor charging the passenger for the hand footage tape? How much editing do you do and how long is the finished product?? Thanks Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
riggerrob 613 #4 September 6, 2004 Max Cohn (www.generationfreefly.com) supplied my Platinum 0.2 lens. He charges US$250 plus shipping. It only took a couple of days to ship from New Jersey to Vancouver, Canada. A year and a half ago, I bought a similar Diamond 0.3 lens from Max and it has served me well, I just wanted a wider field of vision for hand-cam. Pitt Meadows charges tandem students CAN$55 for hand-cam and $90 for outside video. I have not timed my completed video, but it is about the same length as outside video, with music over the profanity and a similar script, except that my video includes an extra minute of under-canopy stuff. riggerrob 613 #6 September 7, 2004 Platinum 0.2 definitely has a wider field of view than my old 0.3 lens. 0.3 has a slight "fish eye" effect when used in rectangular environments (i.e. inside my apartment) however that effect is not noticeable in freefall.
