ChrisL 2 #1 May 13, 2004 Hey all, Just getting set up to capture video via firewire from camera to computer. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro. All works great except for one thing. It automatically captures into .avi file format and I cant seem to find where I might change this (to mpeg2 for instance) Anyone have experience with this application? devcloud 0 #2 May 13, 2004 It does capture to .AVI because this is the best quality and what we want to take the video in at from the DV camera. After you have captured the footage you can edit and Export it. There are many options of what types of file to export to ie. mpg, mov... etc. You CAN capture in at different video settings, i believe it's in the project settings menu... i've only just upgraded to pro from 6.5 myself and haven't had much time to play around But as i say i think it's best to capture at the best quality you can and then reduce this afterwards. Cajones 0 #3 May 13, 2004 To capture in MPEG you need to have a hardware encoder (capture card). If you are capturing with just a regular firewire card/port your only option with Premiere is to capture in AVI. Is there any particular reason you want to capture in MPEG? Keep in mind MPEG is lossy. Unless you are trying to streamline the process of production to DVD/VCD hardware encoding can reduce the quality of final output. - Cajones The laws of physics are strictly enforced. I am completely new to the whole video thing so some of my thoughts may seem ignorant I DO have a capture card but the quality of the video is junk even when I use the s-video input. docjohn 0 #6 May 13, 2004 S-video is an analog source. You should be capturing via a firewire port (IEEE 1394). Yeah, AVI's are big. About 3.6 MB per second.
