Flattened toggles

Recommended Posts

Ive been having some trouble getting my hands into the toggle loops lately, especially when wearing gloves on the colder days.

When the risers were still new they used to pop open due to being stitched to have a fold at a point that isnt halfway in the toggle loop. Now however, with the handles being flattened most of the time when packed, the toggle has acquired an extra fold and stays flat after deployment [:/].

Does anybody know of any nifty tricks to have them pop open after leaving the container ? I guess ironing the extra fold at a low heat setting is out of the question? :$

You should check out the Mirage toggles which are designed to "pop open" once your risers are up.

Fold the bottom of the toggle 'up'. This won't work on all toggle designs. Another method is to have the toggle sewn lengthwise, from tab to the mid point of the loop, for about 2 inches. THis makes it easier to get your hands in the toggles.

This is how I fold my dive loops and toggles. just fold them toward the top of the riser. Gravity pops em open. This is good to do on reserve toggles as well.

Well... if you jump more often they won't take a set that way.;)

just kidding. I see you're jumping a Triathlon. I started on a triathlon 160 at 35 jumps. All things considered, this is the least of your worries. Given time you'll be jumping a ground hungry canopy (or not) that you really will want to have quick access to you toggles. The toggles on my Odyssey are very nice, but gloves will alway hinder things. :|

Muscle memory will train your hands where to go instinctively and it will become less of a problem. Give it some time....

Wings also has "pop-up" toggles and dive loops. The dive loops kick ass, as they are set high and at an angle, making them very easy to grab. The very newest ones also throw in a half twist on the risers to eliminate a little bit more drag. Totally refined for safety and performance in swooping.
