D10 Freefall Settings

Recommended Posts

Would like to hear what settings everyone is running their D10 in for skydiving? AF/Manual Focus (think that answer is pretty much manual at infinity?); Speed? Mode (Sports?, Shutter or Apeture Priority, etc?) D10 w/Sigma 15mm.

Tired of trying to fetch stills off my video camera, Even though it worked OK for the 2003 WFFC Diary I put up

Thanks!

Very generic ballpark settings to get you started might be;

1 hour after sunrise to 1 hour before sunset.

ASA 200
1/500th
Tv (shutter priority -- you'll end up with f/8 + or - 1 stop)
Manual Focus at 10 or maybe 15 feet.
White Balance = daylight
Jpeg FINE (highest setting)

Adjust everything as required.

For the actual jump turn the thumb wheel OFF and gaff tape the shutter speed control knob so it can't move.

I took those setting at the begenning of the saison from Quade but I use AF, with a 15 mm and everything is focus from a really close close up to something far, during a tandem jump I take approx. 40 pictures, and I chose the shot

ASA 200
Tv at 1/500th
Automatic Focus
White Balance = daylight
Jpeg FINE (highest setting)
AI Servo
Drive mode Continious
** Good Compact Flash is a must

Why manual at infinity? Typically your subject will be closer than that.

Set it at the hyperfocal distance of whatever focal length / aperture you want to use. Stop down for max depth of field. Even stopped down, the hyperfocal distance will always be closer than infinity.
