Optik cutaway

Recommended Posts

I put together a simple cutaway design for the chin cup on my Optik. It is a bit derivative of others and a bit mine. It is spring load that fires the spindle out of the helmet when the cotter is pulled, the parts are gone, but they are cheap.

Instead of using a clovis pin have you tried using a cotter pin? I had a Clovis until it started getting soft with its tension after about 5 practice cutaways. Also ho far does that stick out from the side of the helmet?

I looked at the cotter, but was a little concerned about the softer metal wearing through from tension. The spring I used is all the way down, so there is a decent amount of tension there.

The assembly itself only sticks out as far as the audible pocket. I am going to look into have an alluminum cap machined to replace the nylon spacer and washer which are glued together. The spacer is there to keep a line from snagging the spring.
