FrancoR 0 #1 December 19, 2008 Hello Everyone, i am just curious, thinking of all the competitive swoopers i know i find that a lot of them have gotten hurt with a failed swoop. How common is it really for competitive swoopers to get hurt, are there many that have never gotten seriously hurt? By seriously i don't mean cuts and bruises i mean broken bones and anything that stops you from jumping for more than a week or that requires a medical treatment. By competitive swoopers i mean anybody who takes part in competition or trains specifically for swooping competitions. Curious about your answers. lucia 0 #2 December 19, 2008 Im not a swooper, but I happen to share my life with one, a pretty competitive one. We have been toghether for more than 4 years now(but Ive known him for longer) and let me think... Ive never in my whole life have seen him with a cast, surgery etc. I rememeber once he sprung an ankle, that took him like 5 days bitching and moaning for attention. Apart from that he has never been hurt in any other way. From what I see swooping doesnt imply broken bones at all, eventhough there are, and I have seen them, but I dont think its the discipline that is too rough... As a matter of fact Im a skydiver aswell and Ive had more incidents than him (minor), and I just do straight in patterns... Lets see what others say abot their experiences.. Ill keep my fingers crossed so that I dont have to run to a hospital never...Lucy in the Sky http:\\www.skydivelillo.com
AggieDave 6 #3 December 19, 2008 I haven't had a significant skydiving injury in a bit over 6 years. I've been a competitive swooper for 4 years (if you count the first years of the CPC and no national level comps). Does it happen, sure, is it so common that a significant percentage of jumpers can't finish a comp due to an injury? Not that I've seen or heard.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
