SkydiveMonkey 0 #1 December 1, 2001 How exactly does a collapsible pilot chute work? I know there's a line down the centre of it, but how does it 'know' when to collapse? It's bounce that hurts, so grab the grass !!
 rmcvey 0 #2 December 1, 2001 there is a line running inside the bride, one end connected to the top of the canopy, and the other attached to the top of the pilot chute (where the handle is)now this is where you need a graphic demonstration so bear with me.the moments after the canopy has left the d bag,the pilot chute is still catching loads of air it pulls the bag, bridle etc AWAY from the top of the canopy, and also as the top of the pilot chute is attached by the kill line to the top of the canopy and not the d bag, the effect is the top of the pilot chute is pulled towards the canopy thus collapsing it (in reality the centre line/kill line never moves, its the bridle and pilotchute moving AROUND it. So it cannont collapse until the canopy is out the bag.i have just read the above and probably doesnt make any sense, its very hard to explain, ask someone at the DZ to show you in detail how it works. (iwas also puzzled to how it worked before someoune showed me)Bye bye
 SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 December 1, 2001 Cheers!! Think I got it. Don't forget, there is also a bungee collapsible pilot chute as well. The rigger at your DZ will be happy to show you this simple method or explain it for you.alan
 mountainman 0 #7 December 3, 2001 once you jump it once, you'll see how it works better. i saw mine for the first time today and it makes all sense when you see it. -------------http://www.JumpinDuo.com"oh no.
