Indoor skydiving centre breaks new ground at Mirdif City Centre

Majid Al Futtaim Group's Leisure and Entertainment division has hit new heights in helping make shopping fun with the announcement of Dubai's first indoor skydiving centre at a shopping mall.

The 'IFly Skydiving Centre' new attraction in the Mirdif City Centre mall is due to open in 2009. The new centre is one of the first flight chambers in the world to give members of the public the chance to learn how to fly without wings.

The team at MAF's Leisure and Entertainment is famous for introducing firsts to the region, having already brought Ski Dubai and Magic Planet to Dubai. But this new interactive simulation experience within a shopping mall proves the sky really is the limit.

The IFly facility will have two identical flight chambers employing the latest technology to let you float, spin and fly your body in three dimensions. There are no harnesses or wires holding you, just an ultra-smooth column of 200 km per hour air. The facility will be suitable for all ages indoor skydiving requires no previous training or experience.

Craig Hart, Vice President, MAF Leisure and Entertainment said: 'IFly is an experience of the future. This unique attraction will allow visitors to feel the speed and thrill of freefall skydiving without ever leaving the ground. We are happy to partner with SkyVenture International to ensure a safe and exciting experience for our visitors.'

Strategically located on Emirates Road and Tripoli Street along Dubai's Eastern growth corridor, the shopping mall will stretch across 183,400 square meters (GLA) and will be home to some of the most unique entertainment concepts in the Middle East. On completion, Mirdif City Centre will be home to over 430 retail outlets with provision for eight anchor stores, including Carrefour.

Could also be like the Tunnel in Holland, having two flight-chambers on top of eachother (one slighly smaller and closer to the fans for more airspeed).

The one is Holland will be remodelled into one tall single tunnel later this coming year from what I hear..
