JohnRich 4 #2 June 15, 2010 I'm wondering why that might be any different from daylight water landings...
tjm 0 #3 June 15, 2010 Quote I'm wondering why that might be any different from daylight water landings... Oh I don't know......maybe beacause it is dark, but I could be wrong. Technique should not change much, but the visual warning signs can change such as: If the body of water is flowing: Which direction? Or there stumps or fallen trees? Are you about to land on a 15' alligator? Is the water 12" deep or is the bottom to far down do see? There are more, but these might be a tad harder to see at night because of the whole darkness thingy. If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room! JohnRich 4 #5 June 16, 2010 I assume we're talking about unintentional night water landings. Because otherwise, the boat and landing area are going to be illuminated and plainly visible, the water current and wind directions will be observed and noted in advance, the site chosen to be clear of stumps and other obstacles, and deep enough to avoid leg injuries. But whether doing the night water jump intentionally, or unintentionally, the procedure is still the same: - Lack of depth perception - same as any night jump. - Prepare for a PLF - same. - Inflate flotation gear - same. - Unfasten chest strap - same. - Loosen leg straps - same. - Don't release from gear until feet touch water - same. - Swim away from gear - same.
