grimmie 173 #1 August 7, 2012 Hi guys, The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce is putting together a 125 year book for the city. They want to chronicle the jumping history at the airport over the years. If you guys have any photos of back in the day, and stories, let me know. Thanks! Rich DZO at Oceanside www.tsunamiskydivers.com
JerryBaumchen 1,048 #2 August 7, 2012 Hi Rich, Back in the mid-60's to the late-60's there was a rather serious competitor by the name of Hector Nunez who jumped at O'side quite often. I have no idea if he is still alive or even in the area. See if you can find him, JerryBaumchen PS) How about contacting Skratch Garrison ( who is skr on here )? ripcord4 0 #3 August 7, 2012 Wasn't there a San Marco (or Marcos) DZ near Oceanside back in 1963? I seem to recall them when I was at Camp Pendleton.
JerryBaumchen 1,048 #4 August 7, 2012 H ripcord, Yes, there was. A guy, fresh out of the Marines, showed up at a local dz with a jumpsuit that has some San Marcos Skydivers patch on it. He said that he had started there. That was in ~'65. JerryBaumchen
ripcord4 0 #5 August 8, 2012 Hi Jerry, Dug out my OLD logbook from back then and there it was..San Marcos. Jumped there twice with my raggedy-ass old 28' cheapo in 1963 while I was staging for my tour on Okinawa. Damn...that was almost 50 years ago...time flies, huh?
