peace, love, blue sky

Recommended Posts

I think skydiving is a little bit like religious fanaticism. I notice that the people at work avoid skydiving conversation like they do the Jesus freak diatribe. They just can't handle the emotion and intensity.

I admit, I can't handle the Jesus freaks either. But I empathize with them. They are trying to find something greater than the monotony of ordinary life. They just don't know about skydiving. I'm sure Jesus would be skydiving if he were around today. I doubt if he would be sitting around in some church. Can you imagine spending a gorgeous Sunday sitting in church? I think God would send a skydiver to hell for that.

No wonder the Christian Coalition types are so uptight.

Other ways we're like religious zealots:

We tend to prostelytize--trying to get everyone we know to try it

We are convinced it's the one true way to enlightenment

We happily donate all our money to the cause

We make yearly pilgrimages to boogies

Hmm, anyone got any more?

I wrote an article for ENRICHMENT magazine how churches were like DZs.

Some like 'em small & intimate, others like them big with a lot of things going on.

Everyone thinks their disciple is the best (freefly, RW, accuracy). Those very words describe many church's philosophies, Accurate, Free, Relative.

The list goes on...
