What were you thinking during your first pull time?

Looked at my altimeter at pull time and thought: "Ahhh man! Freefall is over already?"

Exit- “Did the jump master just flick me off???”

Fall- “Holy crap, I'm actually stable”

Pull- “ArchThousandLookThousand-THIS-IS-GOING-TO-HURT-thousand.......SON-OF-A-...”

I never looked down until the opening jerked my head. The distance between toes and ground freaked me out, so I stared straight down. It felt like an eternity before it even occurred to me to look up and see if my canopy was good.

Best lesson learned: Early Flare = Hard PLF

Being a static line student, my first pull was a hop n pop. I let go of the strut and went straight for the pull. My first thought: "Hmmm. That D-bag going through my feet can't be a good thing." My second thought: "Fuckin OUCH! That hurt!"

I was static line as well and did like 6 of them. Finally it was time for my first freefall. I just kept telling myself

it's just like the static line, it's just like you've practice.. no difference.

but there was a difference.

"Arch"
"Reach"
"Holy Shizernit I flipping"
"Pull"

It was so weird not the feel the tug from the S/L

(And I really was...it was an IAD jump gone bad).

I was shut down. My brain started rebooting when the door came open. At about 6k, it clicked back on long enough to say, "What the F@ck have you just done?" Then the little man in the back of my head shouted, "PULL!" and the next thing I remember I was on the ground.

Well I pulled and looked up and the parachute wasn't there. Ohh there the parachute is between my legs- now which way am I suppose to flip. Ahh I flipped the right way, Ahh **** I'm going back on static line :(

Remember how incredibly QUIET it was the first time in your life you were under a canopy? The silence of that first canopy ride was the most magical sound I had ever heard, and it would remain so until years later when I heard my oldest child’s heartbeat in utero for the very first time. And that’s quite a comparison.
