mlackner 0 #1 October 10, 2005 How do you calculate freefall MPH speeds? both belly RW and Freefly etc?
labrys 0 #2 October 10, 2005 Divide the distance you fall in miles by the time it takes in hours. Most folks use an audible altimeter with a feature that keeps track of it for them.Owned by Remi #?
pilotdave 0 #3 October 10, 2005 You don't happen to know your coefficient of drag in various body positions off the top of your head, do you? Dave
labrys 0 #4 October 10, 2005 Don't forget that "coefficient of drag" also changes depending upon how much fun you are having and how colorful your jumpsuit is. Owned by Remi #?
mlackner 0 #6 October 10, 2005 are there GPS type devices? backcountry skiiers and paragliders use them. Do skydivers?
Dumpster 0 #7 October 10, 2005 Wingsuit flyers seem to like GPS devices. Most all other use a Pro-Track or Skytronics freefall computer/audible altimeter. Easy Does It
labrys 0 #8 October 10, 2005 Quoteare there GPS type devices? I've heard people talk about using a GPS in the air, but usually they're looking at them under canopy not in freefall. The devices I mentioned earlier are more appropriate for calculating freefall speed. Two common audibles that record freefall speed are the Neptune and Pro-TrackOwned by Remi #? pilotdave 0 #10 October 10, 2005 They calculate speed based on the change in air pressure as you descend. Dave
labrys 0 #11 October 10, 2005 http://www.l-and-b.dk/protrack.html Here's a link to the Pro-Track info... It's pretty basic.. it's an electronic altimeter with a simple set of programs that calculate intersesting details about a jump, including the number of feet descended and the time it took to descend. It starts measuring freefall speed at exit and stops at deployment.Owned by Remi #?
