reddn 0 #2 April 28, 2008 either laziness or they don't have time to pack there is a Federal Aviation Regulation that requires the main(and reserve, of course) be packed within the past 120 days before the parachute jump is to be made FAR 105.43 (a) tom
darkwing 4 #3 April 28, 2008 No, It is not common practice. It is very rare. I have only seen very inexperienced jumpers do it, and it was because they had no confidence in their pack job. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
freedom1 0 #4 April 28, 2008 Not common at all. I left mine packed for 6 weeks and had an opening that I would classify as smooth sailing.
kkeenan 13 #5 April 28, 2008 I think that only someone who had no confidence or too much spare time would do that. Or someone who just felt that they needed the practice. As far as I'm concerned, if it's packed, I'm jumping it. I'll be damned if I'd repack something that's already in the container. But then I hate to pack...Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
angrypeppers 1 #6 April 28, 2008 New guy here. I repack my main the night before I go jumping. It's not so much to repack the canopy, but a chance to inspect my main/lines for damage I may have missed earlier, or to untwist the brake lines, or whatever. Kind of like pre-flighting an airplane before you go up...Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
