antibac 0 #1 June 20, 2011 Can you guys show me an easy way to calculate freefall time? The first 1000 ft is 10 seconds, right? So, if I jump out at 13500 ft and deploy at 5500 ft, how much time inn free fall do I have? Thanks!

So, if I jump out at 13500 ft and deploy at 5500 ft, how much time inn free fall do I have? Yes, the first 1,000' is 10 seconds. Then every 1,000 feet after that at 120 mph terminal (normal belly-fly speeds) is about 6 seconds. Head-down or wing suits will change this factor. So, from 13,500 to 5,500, that's 8,000' of freefall. Ten secs for the 1st 1,000, then 42 secs for the remaining 7,000' (7 X 6 secs), equals 52 seconds (10 + 42). After a while you'll be able to do this math in your head without thinking much about it.
