toronto_bill 0 #1 December 25, 2005 What are some of the risks of a smoke jump. (Purpose is a demo say) i.e. jumping with an approved canister and system. If one were to go off prematurely it might be a big issue for the pilot. Thats one. Is the stuff filthy? How expensive is this stuff?
LouDiamond 1 #2 December 25, 2005 There is a plethora of info on this topic already floating around the forums. Instead of re-writing it again, I suggest you do a search and you will find answers to all of your questions."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
riggerrob 561 #3 December 26, 2005 During my first civilian demo jump (Halifax Natal Day 1981) I opened and watched a badly distorted Strato-Star spin violently for far longer than was healthy. The jumper spent more than a month in hospital recovering from his injuries. Jumping smoke without a briefing by an experienced exhibition jumper (i.e. Skyhawk) is a fool's errand. For example, smoke generators vary widely in their danger. Only a fool would strap anything labelled "WP" to his foot. Wise exhibition jumpers do a few full-dress rehearsal jumps at the DZ a week or more before the real exhibition jump is scheduled.

Dropping it during deployment and having it end up in your canopy. Holes in your canopy from sparks during 'normal' deployments. Burns. Generally this stuff gets covered during PRO rating training.
