I like this idea. The article is fairly long, but if you stick it out to the end, it explains how AK's implemention benefits Murkowski (R-AK), (who voted for Trump's impeachment).

Hi Robert,

I like it also.  Anything [ short of a dictatorship ] that gets rid of the political parties in this country, I'm in support of.

It is a little different than Ranked Choice Voting with the top 5 going into the Gen Election.

Here in Oregon, there have been attempts similar to this; but, each time, both political parties come out strongly against any changes.

Time for the dinosaurs to go into the sunset.

Jerry Baumchen

PS)  IMO our current Primary System kills off the moderates.  IMO that is not a good thing.

Of course! It takes power out of the hands of the political parties, and puts in in the hands of the citizens. Can't have that!

Why have primaries at all?  What have primaries ever done for us (except give us extremist candidates and dysfunctional outcomes)..

The other options would be a vote of paid party members or direct selection by party leaders. Do you have a better idea for another system? Because both have obvious flaws as well. Take Liz Truss for example......

In the article, the proposal could be viewed as an open election, followed by a runoff election of the top 5.  All done with ranked choice voting.

Smoke filled rooms gave us Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy.  Primaries gave us Trump, GWB, Carter.
