Americans file for bankruptcy, a wave is coming

Recommended Posts

This is the real reason most Americans file for bankruptcy

"it does have the potential to wipe out the savings of some everyday Americans who are struggling to afford medical costs. A trip to the ER or urgent care for coronavirus can set them back by thousands of dollars, to the point of bankruptcy, but avoiding treatment for financial reasons could potentially amplify the spread of the virus."

Coronavirus will bankrupt more people than it kills — and that's the real global emergency

For most citizens of western countries complete health care coverage is a given. For many trump voters a layoff notice in the midst of a pandemic may see everything they have worked for all their lives vanish at the doors to a hospital.

It wouldn't surprise me to find out that health insurance providers find some way to minimize the amounts they cover for a Covid-19 associated treatment. Something like an 'unknown diseases aren't covered' clause.

Not Humana.  Got an announcement yesterday saying they explicitly DO cover Covid-19 treatment.   Aetna says much the same thing.
