Barack Obama Middle East speech: Palestinian state should be based on 1967 borders

Recommended Posts

Do you have numbers of the actual KIA's by Israeli military or are you going to make the numbers up?

It is not like they have targeted the population nor launched a full scale military operation against them, if they had there would not be any Palestinians.

On 27 December 2008, without warning, Israeli forces began a devastating bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip codenamed Operation “Cast Lead”. Its stated aim was to end rocket attacks into Israel by armed groups affiliated with Hamas and other Palestinian factions. By 18 January 2009 some 1,400 Palestinians had been killed and large areas of Gaza had been razed to the ground. Amnesty International believes that the deaths of so many unarmed civilians and the manner in which they came under attack demand a thorough, independent and impartial investigation into the conduct of all parties in the conflict.

That is not "thousands and thousands" it also does not say whether they were suspected terrorists, bystanders or a mix of both.

A devastating bombing campaign? Geez, AI must really be daft for them to believe that statement.

That few deaths and it was a "devasting bombing campaign"?

While Amnesty International might have good intentions they are often wrong and or blow things out of proportion.

When they whine about convicted murderers needing to be released or whatever they poison their own message.

the Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat -- who visited Washington this week at the same time as the Israeli envoy Yitzhak Molcho, but for separate meetings with U.S. officials – said, “the Palestinians would accept those [Obama's] principles as a basis for negotiations, if the Israelis did - and now we are waiting to see whether the Israelis can do this.

"And we are in very close consultations with Israel now on exactly this issue because the best outcome at this point would be to have both sides embrace these principles as a basis for negotiations, and flesh that out a little bit, and then be able to say to Europeans on one side, and to the Security Council on the other, and the Palestinians on the third side: 'Listen, at this point there is an alternative out there, there’s motion, we have principles that both sides have agreed on, we have a basis for talks, there is no need at this point to go to the UN. That’s where we want to be.”

This story has the number at around 100 best I can tell ...but probably a lot more.

This is a completely different thing. This is Syrian troops shooting Syrian citizens that oppose the government (been going on for weeks).

Most likely the Syrian government is sending people to clash with Israel in an attempt to divert attention from its own internal clashes.

Sometimes it's just too easy to figure these guys out.

this is just an allegation from israel (who of course would claim such a thing as it's in their interests) - do you have any sort of real proof?

also do you think the syrian protesters being forced out of their homes and villages (as the israelis did to the palestinians in 1948) should be allowed back to their homes from their refugee camps in turkey - or should they be forced to stay in turkey as it's obvious they're not wanted in syria...

The European Parliament supports the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with agreed land swaps, its president said Wednesday. It embraced the vision for peace in the Middle East outlined by US President Barack Obama in a May 19 address in Washington, European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek said.

For those who don't want to read the whole thread, here's a summary:

One side: Jews bad.
Other side: Arabs bad.

Any questions?

A further optimization would be to just say: religion.

Not quite.

Judaism is a tribal identity with religious traditions, while Islam is an Universal Religion - huge difference.

Just like someone can be Arab and Druse, Wahabi or Christian, someone can be a Jew with or without religious affiliation.

The contention of Muhammad (may he rot in hell) was that Hebrews are the legitimate children of Abraham (via Isaac) while Arabs are from the bastard side of the family (via Ishmael). Since he tended to plagiarize shamelessly, and made up much to suit his purpose (in a manner akin to Joseph Smith), there may or may not be any substance to the claims.

That the differences between Jews and Arabs amount to a family squabble between the civilized part of the family and the dueling-banjos side does fit.

uh, again I see you miss the true implications of this. If the mob can decide it no longer wants to abide by its peace treaties, made in good faith, then why would Israel put its trust in agreements that involve giving up it's buffer zones?
