Save a lot of money and time, do the work yourself.

The only things I'd have done buy a gunsmith would be either internal/external barrel threading and shortening of the gas block.
I could do threading myself, rent the tap/die, but having a local smith do it means my having no chance of personally fucking it up.
The gas block, that requires a some decent presses to do easily.

Then again, the gas block does not have to be shortened.

How much did you spend converting yours?

I think the Red Stick ones cost about $1400-$1500 new.

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I actually think there's a lot of value in DIY for learning the gun inside and out, but there are still people (like me, frequently) who have more money than time on most days.
