Just make sure that your backups did actually backup.

I did a format/reinstall once on my uni computer. I managed to loose all of my electronic references and my reference database of ~700 references. The only way I knew what I had was that I had paper copies of all my refs.

It's a lot quicker to:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1

And it's just as effective.

There are kinda a few different ways of doing itm I pm'd ya one of the easiest ways...

Also, its an important question to ask, so don't feel weird about asking about it. A llot of people don't know how to do it. Hopefully that works for ya, lemme know how it turns out

Just think, if ya mess it up too badly, i can fix it for ya saturday ;)

After many, many, manymanymany attempts to make reformatting a hard drive an easy task, I came up with this excellent (so to speak) phrase:

"Always remember to have a CD-ROM driver on a floppy disk when formatting the boot-up hard drive"

Ooooh, this brings tears to my eyes...

Inquiry minds want to know. What happened to your XP that requires the reinstall?

Just curious because I've had great luck with XP but lately I'm fighting IE on my laptop.

LOL//um I dunno it just wouldnt go load when I turned on the computer. wouldnt even go to the last known good version.
I didnt have the admin code so it wouldnt let me fix it with he disc![:/]
