Wedding Woes

Recommended Posts

Have a wedding to go to this weekend (yes my long weekend is cut short by one of my friends weddings[:/]) in which I am the Best Man.

I have to toast/intro my friend and I have absolutely no idea what I am gonna say. I am sure others have been through this before.

vibes would be appreciated to help me get creative and eloquent in the coming days.

A quick Google search:

http://www.great-wedding-toasts.com/best-man-speeches.htm You have to pay to get them to write a speech/toast for you, but their form should give you a few ideas.

http://www.hopstudios.com/nep/column/bestmantoast.html http://www.cds.caltech.edu/~shane/text/bestman_kurt.html Here are some transcripts.

Just check out http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=best+man+toast for some ideas.

.

Note: Not that I have any experience with writing best man toasts, or engagements or anything...

why didn't I think of that?;)

Though the groom has done a few jumps, and you and I would both find that extremely funny. I suspect that BSBD may be a wee bit too extreme for most of the target audience.

Thanks Masher...

you know I had thought of doing a google search but hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Plus posting here gives me the chance to hear your minds and meet a few more of you. I will definitely check those out tomorrow.

I've done this a lot.

Try and keep it short, simple, ethical and personal. You've been chosen as a best man for a reason. Thank the people you know made a difference, and describe how you felt when you first met his bride to be, unless she's an ex of yours. (You may need to lie here)

You can add some humour to show others how close you are as friends, but leave out the story about when you swapped the twins you were doing, or when you caught him harpooning the town whale.

You'll do great! Great, big VIBES coming at ya with a big Texas hug.B|

Just remember you're honored to have be choosen as "best man"; right? Mention that, how much you value your relationship with him/them & have a happy long life together....and you'll do fine.:P

Thanks to everyone who responded!

I got rave compliments on my speech!B| I only actually wrote it the morning of the wedding after breakfast and before I had to get the boys to the church. Even then I didn't really write it just kinda fleshed it out.

I had checked out the website links that Masher provided and they gave me confidence that I could do a good job. Went really well.

Oh and the groom gave all of the groomsmen engraved katana swords! What a cool gift! The engraving was the japanese symbol for brother!

What a guy!

speak form the heart man! really!!

Ive done one for a good friend of mine I had some sort of thing written but I couldnt give a rehearsed speech! how lame is that. tell them how you see things! (unless you hate her)

I jsut said (in a nutshell) that
"i've known rob since we were in diapers... for me that was last week. " (its a halloween reference joke that our friends understtod)
" through all the times we had ...."
(add some memory lane stuff keep it short but sweet. then tell HER.)

"Patricia Ive never seen my friend so happy etc etc blah blah! I am glad to have you as a friend and Im glad to see my friend so happy!
I wish all the best to you..." yadda yadda yadda.
Lets raise a toast to true happiness. I hope we all find as much happiness as they have found in each other."
