Also I created an access database to actually move the files around for me. It's a pretty crazy way of doing it, but it beats FTP for dos which is the only other way I know of. Anyway, when I move files now, the program generates a logfile of the files that were moved. pilotdave 0 #6 January 15, 2003 actually subdirectories make my life even tougher. My snazzy new database can't seem to handle them for some reason. (Probably something simple like an extra / somewhere). But I'll make a dropzone.com directory. I think there are plenty of files to make it worthwhile. Anyone out there wanna try running an apache server and a SQL server? I'd love to try out the web based search engine for the server I designed a long time ago. It was a searchable database that allowed searches by filename, description, file size, length, etc. It also let people leave comments about each video, which could be really useful. Gotta be able to use PHP to connect to a SQL server, but the files would stay where they are now. I'd run it myself but I can't run any servers here cause of our router. pilotdave 0 #21 April 25, 2003 3/4ths of all hard drive space on earth. at least it seems that way. I'd prefer to have all the hard drive space, but the hosting is free so i cant complain. I still wonder what the hosting (provided by AndyMan) would cost if I (or some rich dude) actually had to pay for it. The server seems to contain well over 9 gigs now... over 1200 videos. pilotdave 0 #23 April 25, 2003 Eh, no need for anything so complicated... just bring 6500 floppies. The server itself is in the Chicago area. The mayor shut down Meigs field in order to protect the server from possible terrorist attacks. AndyMan runs it, but i have a feeling connecting anything directly to it wouldn't be possible.
