kansasskydiver 0 #1 January 26, 2004 Alright I'm confused... I uploaded it to my server but it's just all code when I click on the link. It's like it's just reading it as an html file or something grrrrrr anyone have any ideas?<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
AggieDave 6 #2 January 26, 2004 Make sure that the correct extension was used during the upload. Also, make sure that you have the right program set to use a .wmv when you just click on it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." spidermonky 0 #4 January 26, 2004 I had to rename it to a wmv after downloading, then it worked. What I saw looked good though!
AggieDave 6 #5 January 26, 2004 You uploaded it wrong, so it didn't keep the right extension, even though its a ".wmv" in the name of the file. Use the correct settings on your FTP program.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
shmali 0 #6 January 26, 2004 Yea it brings up the page o code you spoke of. But right clicking and saving target as a .wmv works. (kick ass music btw). it did want to save it as a html at first so something is definetely trying to make it a webpage on the server. not quite sure what to do though. (zip it and see if it goes like that) Pineappe Death Juice, If you have to ask you'd rather not know!

CrazyIvan 0 #8 January 26, 2004 Have you 'converted' the file or you just changed the name?__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
kansasskydiver 0 #9 January 26, 2004 i converted the file from an avi to the wmv in 2 different sizes high and low. when i upload them to my server they are saving as html for some reason... i'm confused. i'm going to try another server and see if it does the same thing<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! Cornholio 0 #10 January 26, 2004 no, no, and no. You guys are all wrong. The problem is with his webserver and the MIME types that are configured. The best way, in this situation, is to load the wmv file in a web page and link to that. OR, you can just right click on it and save it as a .wmv file and it will play. QuoteThe basic problem: ------------------ If the web server doesn't know to dish up a mime type of "video/x-ms-wmv" for the .wmv file, then when a netscape user clicks on the link, they get meaningless garbage text displayed in the browser instead of the movie (even though if the .wmv file were on their local system and they clicked on it, the system would know to play it as a movie) . Although apache servers can easily be told (in the httpd.conf file) to "AddType video/x-ms-wmv", my question is whether there is some "stupid pet trick" whereby some html tag or parameter to some html tag can tell the browser that this file has mime type "video/x-ms-wmv" . If this were possible, then html files could be designed to work even if the web server didn't dish up the proper mime type for the .wmv file. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! kansasskydiver 0 #11 January 26, 2004 actually now that you posted that it makes sense. because it's a school server they don't allow things like cgi bins or script running applications... i.e. when uploading it wno't let it reconfigure the file to the proper reading from the server as a form of self defense... hmmm wonder if i can get that changed anyhow<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist!
