kallend 1,679 #6 December 5, 2009 The magnets in question are lanthanide (neodymium) which are sufficiently strong to affect the compasses in aircraft, and in those planes that have steel tube frames, the tubes can become permanently magnetized leading to compass error even after the magnet itself has long since exited with the jumper.
