The owner of the storage unit files with the courts to take the property contained in the unit and then sells it to recoup past due amounts on the unit. Which by the way...is a GREAT WAY to get neat stuff cheap! There has to be a notice of sale in the local classifieds and the entire contents of the unit usually gets 'bid' on...look but no touch kinda thing. Done it a few time in Ca. and NEVER got burned once, and as a karma thing I always returned anything 'personal' like papers-photos-family mementos etc...to the owner in default if I could locate 'em. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
ZigZagMarquis 8 #30 May 8, 2008 Quote Which by the way...is a GREAT WAY to get neat stuff cheap! Dunno, I'm sure it works out that way sometimes, but I've asked a couple of storage place owners if they ever get any cool stuff when then do this and what they've said amounts to that mostly they don't. Usually its just crap and that the folks that quit paying sometimes even come get the "good stuff" before they quit making payments on their storage space and then skip. Although, "yes" sometimes they do get some good stuff folks have left behind, but that's the exception rather than the rule. Anyway, I digress. Looks like there is only about 6 Hours and some change left on the auction... the current bid is in the $900-ish range... eh, probably about right IMO, maybe a bit high... and someone who goes by O***z has the current high-bid... good luck... happy bidding!
