NlghtJumper 0 #2 January 26, 2006 I have seen bugs similar to that in Florida. They were black with red spikes instead of white. But same basic concept. Not really sure what they are thou A man will do anything for the right woman, and when that woman destroys him, that man will become a hunk of meat with the common sense of a rodeo clown! ~ Christopher Titus

Miami 0 #7 January 26, 2006 Those were all over the place in southern florida where I grew up. Not sure of the exact type of spider they are but we always called them crab spiders. edit - had to look it up, they are Gasteracantha cancriformis or elipsoides, aka spiny, crab, or jewel spiders...a type of orbweaver.Miami
swedishcelt 0 #8 January 26, 2006 I saw them in the gardens we visited. I liked the bugs under water best though.

flygirl1 0 #13 January 26, 2006 It is a spinybacked spider I think their official name is Gasteracantha cancriformis (Araneae: Araneidae) I have a friend that lives in Hawaii and I would see them in her garden when I would go visit her. They are very cool and I love bugs but, it was quite a shock when I first saw one crawling on me by the pool. I think they bite but I am not sure if or how poisonous they are.Fly like a girl
