I had a wings certificate that I'd won in a raffle, and I didn't want to use it (I'd just bought my gear), and I mentioned it to a friend. He did the math on what he was actually saving between using the certificate and buying through a dealer, and we split the difference. He still saved money, and I had some pocket money for jump tickets.

i agree, its pretty bad to see these things going for that high.

at my old DZ, if someone who got it didn't need it, they would give it to someone who did.

I got a 50% off wings one that way from someone, and I've given away certificates before too. I think thats the way it SHOULD be done.

There's another one of these for sale. Just for the record, I bought one on here for a very reasonable price and it worked out for both of us. But I'm a new jumper and this thread helped me understand the value of these things, so I wanted to put it out there again.

i cant believe that someone is trying to sell it again for a price of $450 usd.

The thing that guts me more is that it sounds like one i gave away considering it is valid until june and is in the uk.

Word, 450 is a ripoff. I'm a finance geek and made this spreadsheet (attached) to assist my gear purchase. It assumes different dealer prices. If it's informative at all to people considering buying one of these, than my geekiness has paid off.

$450 is insane. I had one, couldn't use it since I just ordered a container a week before I got the cert, sold it here for $100. The buyer saved a lot more than that, I made a little, everyone's happy.

exactly. That is very fair. you get something for winning the cert and sell it at a fair price, at the same time the buyer buys something that helps them save some money. nothing wrong with that. win win situation for both people.
