Can you believe that 26 years ago John Lennon died on this date??!

I don't know if I subscribe to John being a doormat. I'm not saying I like Yoko but John and Cynthia were becoming very different people at the time. John was experimental, he was traveling, expanding his way of living, exploring the world and different religions and music. He was thinking and doing many drugs and just not including Cynthia in on it at all. Yoko fit his new lifestyle and he very much pursued her because she also fit a certain ideal he was pursuing.

John was killed 2 years before I was born.Later in my life I discovered his music and have loved him and the Beatles ever since.I always remember him on his birthday and the date of his death.Sometimes I'll light a candle or just sit around all day listening to his music.

I've been interested in his ex-wife's book but I refuse to read it b/c I think shes just a bitter person trying to tarnish the image of a man who did so much for society...his political activisim, philosophical views and ofcourse his music. If you watch the documentary Imagine it goes in depth about his life, including over 100hrs of interviews with Lennon and his ex,Yoko and his children.

To hear his ex talk about John, and then hear Julian, its seems that they are polar opposites.Julian says his father was a great man and often invited him and friends our to play and hang out at his Tittenhurst estate in the UK.They were just starting to reconnect and get a good relationship going when he was murdered. On the other hand, you have the ex-wife,who tried to publish this same book while John was alive and it was quashed in court as libelous. So now she gets her chance to bitch by publishing it after his death. They were young when they married and as people grow, they realize they have become different people than when they were younger.People change and sometimes a marriage isnt enough to keep them together.Julian simply says he was a great man and wishes he could have been around more...no bitterness, nothing.

The one thing I can say about the boys, atleast Julian is recording and singing his own material, whereas Sean has attempted to do some coveres of John's music,I'm sure this was backed by Yoko ofcourse.I hope Julian can prosper in his career without riding the coattails of his father's legacy by trying to cover his songs.

I am sad that they decided to put the official John Lennon Museum in Japan.:(>:( He did so much political work here in the US and so much music in the US and UK...but then it goes in Japan?WTF? Ofcourse thats Yoko's home country so go figure.[:/]

There is a petition going around now to have his birthday,Oct 9th, recognized internationally as John Lennon Day...a day of peace and love.If anyone is interested in more info about it go here:

I was 25 and was driving home from a Monday night class when I heard.

About 2 years later I learned that one of my childhood friends had been one of the cops who had responded to the call for a shooting at the Dakota. He saw Lennon lying on the ground and says he knew then & there that Lennon was a goner. They (the cops) decided not to wait for an ambulance and loaded him into the back seat of one of the squad cars for a desperate race to the ER at Roosevelt Hospital. He and his partner remained behind to take Mark Chapman into custody. As Chapman was an out-of-towner who had come a long way to kill one of NYC's leading citizens, they gave him an appropriate beating, which was repeated at the Precinct station house.

Not at all. She does a great job in telling both sides of the story. She admits to alot of mistakes and her only interest was/is doing what was best for THEIR son. You really should check it out.

hmm.I'm still kinda torn on reading it.Even though John died before I was even born he became a big influence in my life and I respect the things he did for hunamity.I understand completely that she wanted the best for her son but she does seem pretty bitter.I've had the book in my hand ready to buy several times but put it back every time b/c of the reputation its gotten for being a bit harsh and jaded..kinda one sided ya know? I dont see how she got it published after his death if John had sucessfully stopped her in cout for it being libelous while he was alive.

You should check out his documentary Imagine. She even says in an interview that she received a latter from John admitting that he was a bastard for not being proper father during the whole "Beatle Mania" thing and missed alot of Julian's growing up.But he did try to establish a relationship afterwards and it shows Julian at the Tittenhurst estate playing and having a good time. So,yeah he could have been a better father but it seems he did try to make up for it after he realized his mistake.Even Julian says as much in the interviews.

Maybe I'll check it out.Right now I'm wanting to read "Memories of John Lennon" which is a compilation of stories and memories of John from his friends and family put together by Yoko.

My mom had a similar experience.Shes a home health nurse and while in one of her patient's houses she noticed alot of stuff on the wall about the JFK murder and in the middle was the famous pic of Lee Harvey Oswald being escorted out by 2 cops, right before he was shot. She looked closer and realized that one of the cops escorting him was her patient!

He doesnt talk about it much but wow! to be a part of something like that.I cant even imagine.:o

It really really does give you a tremendous amount of insight as to what his life was like BEFORE the Beatles and what his life was like in the very early stages of stardom. It gives you insight on the early member changes within the band and insight on "why" (what he was feeling and thinking at the time) Brian Esptein died. Stories about Johns mother and stories about his Aunt Mimi. I read it and was reading parts to my sister over the phone/long distances who loves the Beatles as much as I do...along with them individually.:)
