RALFFERS 0 #1 May 5, 2008 Every morning when I wake up, my nose is congested - not much, actually it's very little, but just enough to notice & have to clear it out. Does anyone else struggle with this or something similar? I would just like to hear about possible causes & solutions. It goes away about 10-20 minutes after waking up, but still... I was never 1 to have sinus issues; beginning this passed November though I began to get a cold, as most people do in the start of winter - thing is, it stayed with me for 3-4 months. At 1st it was impossible to clear; nothing would come out (sorry for the graphic description) - it was just a little fluid & I would remain congested. Then, I couldn't have enough tissue if I tried! - & unlike before, now it was the thickest & highest in volume I've ever had (yuck!) And now it's the morning thing... I wonder also if it's just an allergy, & has nothing to do with my long cold though; I sneeze for a few minutes, & my nose itches - again, just in the morning. Something tells me walking in light cloths for all those Chicago winters throughout the years wasn't such a macho idea after all... I used to never, EVER get sick at all - & now I just might be paying the price for it... skymama 35 #2 May 5, 2008 I use a steriod nose spray at night before going to bed to help with sinus problems. You can get Nasalcrom OTC, it used to be only by prescription. It's safer to use repeatedly than regular nose sprays. You can also try a neti-pot in the mornings if you don't like the thought of using a nose spray. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

skymama 35 #7 May 5, 2008 You can buy one at a regular drugstore. I think I got mine at Walgreens. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
LisaM 0 #8 May 5, 2008 I got mine at Walgreen's too. Skymama, do you find you have to be religious about doing it several times a day for it to have an impact? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
skymama 35 #9 May 5, 2008 Well, I usually only use it when I'm sick but in that instance, I do use it more than one day sometimes. It just depends on how miserable I am!She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
LisaM 0 #10 May 5, 2008 I keep hearing that it'll help with my allergies, but I forget to try it. It seems it might clear out the allergens but then they'll just go right back in! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
LisaM 0 #11 May 5, 2008 And to answer your question, it probably is allergies since you mentioned it goes on for 3-4 months. I am the same way. A neti-pot might work or saline spray for your nose or 24 hour allergy meds (problem is if you don't have day-time symptoms that is probably overkill). ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder? RALFFERS 0 #12 May 5, 2008 I'll try any & all suggestions to see what works - thanks for all the info. This started back when I was in Florida in November; I thought it was just a light cold & didn't think much of it. It's not that troublesome, I guess -I just know that sinus problems can cause some discomfort when jumping; I will only be pissed if it gets in the way in that respect. If I have to deal with it though, that's o.k. I remember that on both tandems my ears hurt under canopy; I asked Jeremy if his ears hurt & he said know; I just assumed that it's because he has over 7,500 jumps. I may grow accustomed to it; it may go away - we'll see what happens. I have a year to take care of the problem anyway. NWFlyer 2 #13 May 5, 2008 I had similar symptoms early this year ... lingering slight congestion that just wouldn't go away (though mine manifested itself as post-nasal drip ... I was always verklempt ). Went to see my PCP and she said it was allergic rhinitis and gave me a steroid nasal spray (Flonase, which is prescription, but is available generic, so it's fairly cheap with my insurance). I use it once a day and it seems to have lessened my symptoms enough to where I hardly notice them. Might be worth a visit to a doctor just to get checked out. pontiacgtp00 0 #18 May 6, 2008 I have the worst seasonal allergies, but its never affected me when I skydive. My sinuses clear up once I get a good 2 miles away from any kind of plant life. Then I get back on the ground and my nose starts running everywhere.
