I remember a hummingbird hitting our sliding glass door when I was a kid. That's the only time I've ever held a hummingbird. He was stunned at first and couldn't fly, but he recovered after a while and took off.
JohnRich 4 #28 July 10, 2008 QuoteWe get bird stikes from those stupid doves all the time... It's not necessarily stupidity. Some birds see their own reflection in the glass and think that it is another bird trying to take over their territory, so they attack it to run it off and defend their turf. In a vacation house in South Carolina last week we had a female cardinal visit one particular window every single morning, flying up against the window rather gently and pecking at it with her beak. That wasn't stupidity. It was probably defending her turf.
