SKYDIVE 0 #1 March 16, 2005 Would there be a huge difference in airspeed when landing between a elliptical and a semi elliptical 9 cell canopy when equally loaded?(straight in approach)
Praetorian 1 #2 March 16, 2005 according to pd speed is effected very little by shape given about equal loading and equal trim same number of cells ect, shape will make faster turns Degrees per second and more alt loss in feet decended per second ... so I'm told I've yet to jump anything but the almost square ... Tapered ... etc Good Judgment comes from experience...a lot of experience comes from bad judgment.
grega 0 #3 March 17, 2005 in short, NO. (or you shouldn't see any difference) but the problem is that in real not even two canopies (though from the same manufacturer) aren't exactly the same. the difference is never just in taper (eliptical or square) it's always difference in trim, or airfoil or something else also... So it really depends on, which two canopies do you have in mind..."George just lucky i guess!"
