billvon 2,435 #1 December 25, 2010 Merry Christmas, everyone, and please try to make 2011 a safe year. We all make our own tradeoffs on safety; we decide that we are OK with the risk of this, or we can reduce the risk of that enough to make it acceptable. But what we forget sometimes is that it's not just ourselves who suffer when we get hurt; friends, families, teammates and colleagues also bear the burden when skydivers get injured or killed. Even newer jumpers who feel like they're just starting to find friends at the DZ carry the hopes of their instructors and coaches that they make it through their skydiving career safely. So please take an extra moment or two during 2011 to think about keeping yourself and the people you jump with safe. Make a lot of deposits in the bank of experience and education and try not to push the limits too much - so that if someday you do have to make a very big withdrawal, there will be enough to cover you.
