Hello from Missouri!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I've been checking out Dropzone.com for some time now. I thought perhaps I might start posting so I thought that I would introduce my self. My name is Gary Fletcher. They call me "Baby Fletch" at the DZ on account of the fact that my father skydives and they call him "Fletch". Oh well, I guess I could have gotten tagged a worse nickname. Anyhow, at the present time I have approximately 215 jumps. I just recently got my D License. I also recently invested in a pretty nice camera outfit. I'm gonna be a vidiot. Next week I'll be taking the IAD instructors course here at my home DZ of Freefall Express Skydiving in Mt. Vernon, MO.

I made my first jump in September of '99 and since then I can think of doing nothing else. I couldn't afford to skydive so I taught myself to pack and started packing for jumps. The rest is history. I'm not the fastest packer on the planet but it's like I tell everyone, "My shit opens, and it opens nice!" ;)

If you are ever in SW Missouri, drop on by. I'll jump with you. Our dropzone is a great little place. We're all family here and it shows. We recently worked out a deal to have a King Air 2 Weekends a month too. Not just another Cessna Dropzone anymore! Hahaha

Do you like jumping with your dad?

I used to... My father has been benched. He has had a rough road the past 2 years beating colon cancer. Fortunately he's on the mend. He's one of our jump pilots and we hope to get him back in the plane in the next few months. Hopefully we'll get him back in a rig by June, in time for our "Hillbilly Boogie". My father is also a Gary Fletcher. B-1978; C-2100; D-25929. He said he wouldn't have even gotten a D-License but he couldn't have me having a higher license than him. Hahahahaha

I can't wait for him to get back in the air. The last time we jumped together I probably had 30 jumps or so... My airwork was terrible. The next time we jump together will be quite different now that I can fly. ;) I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.

(deleted cool info about dad)

That was wonderful to read -- I hope you have a really great jump with your dad when he can jump again.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Hey, I remember you!

You guys came to Skydive Flagler beach and your dad did a beach jump, right? Or was it you? Regardless, welcome to dropzone.com.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Hello! Yes, we have been to Flagler. The guys we were with all did beach jumps. My father got his water training the hard way. He wanted no part of landing in water again. I didn't have enough jumps at the time. That's been a few years ago... good times... good times...

As for Couch Freaks... I'd love to go to that. Unfortunately we have a show to do that weekend usually so I miss it every year. I'm usually in PA. Hopefully I won't have to work this year. I do get up to Winterset during the Bridges of Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. We have the pewter figurines booth there. Got to make a couple of jumps last year... Good times... good times...
