Flysight as audible

Recommended Posts

I have an audible and was wondering about getting a second as a backup. Is the Flysight sufficient for this purpose on non-wingsuit jumps?

Cheers

No chance! At least for these reasons:

- you can easily lose GPS signal
- there is no warning that the battery level is low

I actually have a "pull that shit" alert on mine but that is more of a joke as I also have 2 audibles.

From the Flysight Wiki:

; WARNING: GPS measurements depend on very weak signals
; received from orbiting satellites. As such, they
; are prone to interference, and should NEVER be
; relied upon for life saving purposes.

; UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THESE ALARMS BE
; USED TO INDICATE DEPLOYMENT OR BREAKOFF ALTITUDE.

Emphasis mine.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

I vaguely remember the manual mentioning something about the risk of headphones accidentally unplugging as a reason why you just should not use a flysiht as an audible.

At any rate, the manufacturer advises against it, probably a bad idea? But then again, you're a grown ass man at this point. ... and swooping is a bad idea too...

The audio alarms do work.
But for many reasons do no not use it as audible backup.
- Loss of gps signal due to body position etc.
- You have to acquire signal at the start of the day.
- You have or adjust the altitude by hand, when switching from dz.
- Headphones could disconnect.
- Unless you gonna use the Flysight a lot for other purposes; it's too expensive as a back-up. Just buy a Solo II
