Where in NC are you at? I jump at East Carolina Skydiving in Williamston and they're working getting a balloon out sometime soon if there's enough interest.

I wear glasses and had the same problems you do which a full-face took care of. I do miss the wind in my face but I hated goggles over my glasses and I don't wear contacts. The only disadvantage I've noticed is less peripheral vision than with an open face. The biggest thing I would say is to try on as many models and sizes as you can (the sizes are NOT equal). I have a weird shaped head and it took a few different models before I found one that would work.

"While I disagree with the DZ...They are a private business and had every right to ask him to cover it up. Probably a smart business move on their part as US dropzones get a lot of income when groups from other countries stay an extended period of time and jump. BTW I'm still on active duty, have multiple deployments and have taken an IED blast as well so don't try and make this about "me not knowing what it's like"."

Sorry guys and gals this is mainly going to be a bitch session with a couple of questions. So way back in July I did my FJC (I had done a tandam about a year prior to that) and continued on and finished my A license in August. September I got to do a jump with Kevin which was AWESOME!!! (Kevin is the dude who convinced me to do my FJC and took me to the DZ). And that was my last jump. Since then work has kept me from being anywhere near a DZ. December I thought: "Ya I'll be jumping soon" so I bought a used rig which I still haven't jumped. Now the closest DZ is a $800 plane ticket and about $80 lift tickets. I think the hardest part was the first month or two of not jumping. I would be jumping in my head. Going through dive flows, maybe having a malfunction, of course nailing my EPs lol. Since then though I've been thinking about jumping less. Does this mean I don't want to jump as much? NO!!! I just think that as the length of time since we've completed a task gets larger, we thing about it less. To update my rig to reflect my "not jumping in a long ass time status" (yes I thing that's a legit status) I got the reserve pillow swapped out for a D-ring and upsized the main from a 190 loaded at right at 1.0 to a 210 at .90. I realize it's a small difference but I feel better about it. Obviously I'm going to have to go through recurrency training. Obviously I will listen to my instructors there and take their advice. But what do you all do when you can't jump for a while?

The DZ's on the mainland are USPA dropzones and membership is required.

Can't speak to the travel as I had my rig shipped over here. But shoot me a PM or email if you want to plan a trip to the mainland (or anywhere else) to jump. I'm off island right now but should be back soon.

Just FYI Concealed is not your only option if you decide on a full frame handgun...Open Carry is legal in Montana.

Sorry if it came off that way. I'm not able to get near a DZ until May so I'm passing the time reading everything I can (wishing I was jumping) and happened to be reading the new SIM when I was going through this thread.

USPA SIM Section 2, K-2 2. All students are to be equipped with the following equipment until they have obtained a USPA A license: a. a rigid helmet (except tandem students) [NW] b. a piggyback harness and container system that includes a single-point riser release and a reserve static line, except: [FB] (1) A student who has been cleared for freefall self-supervision may jump without a reserve static line upon endorsement from his or her supervising instructor. (2) Such endorsement may be for one jump or a series of jumps. c. a visually accessible altimeter [NW] NW = non waiverable. The SIM makes no distinction between harness hold and static line students. By the same token it makes no distinction there about tandem students and altimeters either. The list of changes to the 2012 SIM on USPA's website includes exempting tandem students from the requirement. It now reads as below. 2. Skymama: Thanks! I'm looking forward to the water training. I've always loved the water and I have been SCUBA diving for almost 6 years. deltron: Thanks as well! But most of that credit goes to the instructors and coaches who jumped with me.

Hey all, Been lurking around just reading since I did a tandem back in 2009. Finally did my AFF back in August and just finished my A-license. Looking forward to continuing my jumping! Blue Skies!

I showed up to the DZ with 21 jumps (4 short of my A-license). Everyone there was friendly and welcoming. Great instructor staff that emphasized safety and fun. Everyone at the DZ was more than willing to help out a new jumper. Was able to complete my A-license here thanks to the professionalism and expertise of the instructor staff.
