Go to Snopes and you can see all four photos. I won't bother with the link.;)

As we move around or sit in the hangar waiting for aircraft sometimes the drogue gets pulled out a little. Now if I saw a pattern forming with an instructor where his or her drogue was always exposed...

Is it a rigging issue? How is the spandex BOC? Is it tight enough to hold the drogue? Is the drogue packed correctly?

In my experience drogues don't just fall out the BOC.

Usually, as part of the pre-flight inspection, I consider the "chain of custody". Who packed the main? Who packed the drogue? Does the packer need re-training? Drogue release assembly? etc...

Everyone knows tandem rigs are heavy. If there is a long wait for the plane (cessna DZ) I wouldn't put on the rig until the plane was on the ground (or on final approach). Assuming the student is trained, geared up and ready; ideally, I want to complete the pre-flight, put on the rig, and board the plane.

Personality conflicts on the DZ are tough. The tandem operation is a team effort (DZO, manifest, packers, instructors, pilots). If I didn't feel the team support was there I would talk to the DZO. Ultimately it is my ass on the line with the student. I wouldn't jump in any scenario that I felt compromised my safety.

Well, the first thing you should do is bitch slap that guy the next time you see him. Then, tell everyone who will listen how fucking stupid what he did was. PEOPLE DIE CATCHING CUTAWAY CANOPIES!!!

To do it under your reserve takes it to a new level of stupid.

Chris, try clicking on the "more info" tag next to the video.;)

He didn't catch the canopy. He never had a clean break away. The jumper explains that his leg was wrapped in suspension lines, hook knife broke fighting the malfunction, deployed his reserve, and was unable to clear the entanglement around his leg.

This is just another example of why Mr Bill jumps are...a bad idea.[:/]

  4. Don't worry about it. :)
Your knees are too far apart. Relax and bring them in towards a shoulder width spacing and that will allow you to push your hips into the wind.

Compare this flyer's body position and knee placement to your videos for Category B and C.
If you replicate the knee placement of this flyer, most if your arching problems will be fixed.

  5. Reading this thread reminds me of a few lines from Conan.

Crom laughs at your Four Winds. Laughs from his mountain. Ha, my god is stronger- He is the everlasting sky. Your god- lives underneath it. What is best? Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.:D:D:D:P

There is a new girl started in the office today called Emma. I have not seen her yet but my colleague just mentioned that she will probably have massive boobs as every other "Emma" in the office has.:o

I had a look around, and he is right, we have 6 Emma's in the office and they do all have big boobs. (I've never really noticed before :$)

He also suggested that all of the Jane's in the office (we have 3 Jane's) have small pert boobs... And they do. B|

Is there a pattern? Are there any other patterns?

    BP
    :)

Are most of the Emma's under age 25 while the Jane's are 35+?

Emma became a very popular name in the late 80's to present. Jane was most popular during the 50's and 60's.

maybe it's the growth hormone in milk? ;):P

While I'm not a fan of the New York Times, this is an interesting column, and is spot on in many perspectives.

    A decent read.

There are also some parts of the NYT article that are gross mis-interpretations/politcal spin of McCain's position in his paper.

I read his paper and agreed with the premise and conclusions. I think they are misrepresented in the NYT article to make political hay.[:/]

McCain is advocating educating soldiers in foreign policy to the extent necessary that it prepares them to fight an entirely different war as a P.O.W. A war of propaganda.

An interesting quote from his paper:
    Quote

Many ex-POW’s have stated that due to the length and divisiveness of the Vietnam conflict, if the policy of the North Vietnamese towards the captured Americans had been of strict adherence to the Geneva Convention the North Vietnamese might have returned a group of men who would have been grateful and sympathetic to their problems in that part of the world. Instead, a dedicated group of anti-communists have emerged from that ordeal.

Infer what you will from that... I can't imagine how that might apply to current events.;)

I'd recommend you look at the CX7, or if you can wait a few months, wait for its replacement.
If you don't need remote control, the new Canon Vixia series are great, and the new Panasonic SD5/9's aren't terrible.
AVCHD/tapeless is the future, no moving parts other than zoom travel, and the cams are super lightweight, almost half that of an HC series.
The HC3/5/7/9 are all great cams too, of course.
Just don't put a crappy SD lens on the front of an HD camcorder like so many seem prone to do. It makes HD look terrible. You might as well buy an HC52 and shoot SD widescreen

How much material will the Vixia record on the native 16GB memory?

    >So when a product becomes a necessity should it not be regulated?

No. A better option is to make it NOT a necessity by pushing alternatives - and then let the market regulate price.

if i were an "oil" company, i would change to an "energy" company and be on the front lines of alternative energy souces, and buy up all of the patents for alternative energy, and then sit on all of the new technology until all of the oil is sucked from the ground. i don't know if oil companies are currently doing this, but i would be surprised if they weren't.

This sounds like the final scene of the movie "The Formula". 1980 film Starring Marlon Brando and George C. Scott.

As the Oil Co. exec Brando get lines like "We're not in the oil business; we're in the oil shortage business! "

By the end of the film the Brando has made a business deal to "wait" on the release of the alternative fuel source until they can maximize their profits.:S

Just means they've been watching too much Deal or No Deal.

What the hell is a terroist fist jab?

    http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1812102,00.html

One might also credit germaphobics for the fist bump's popularity. Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel reportedly adopted the gesture as a friendly way to avoid his contestants' germs.

Gosh, what would happen if Obama took this kind of greeting to a G8 summit meeting? Do you think Putin is hip enough?
