  1. I would be very interested to see how the video quality compares to the GoPro and Sony, particularly at the higher frame rates. I owned the Replay XD1080 and no other camera beats its ease of use for skydiving. The successor the 1080Mini scored quite good on the action camera comparison. So this new Prime X sounds perfect if it delivers on the video quality. Personally I like the 140 FOV. Wide enough to capture most of what happens, and it doesn't give that ugly fish eye effect quite as much.
  2. There are some annual costs associated with owning gear you would need to take into account: inspection/repack costs, depreciation of your AAD, possibly insurance costs. Back when I was looking at my own gear, my local rigger estimated the break-even between renting and owning to be at around 70 jumps per year. Fewer jumps and you are better of renting, more and you are better off buying.
  3. What sort of dropzone will you be jumping at (small Cesna dropzone or a big one with lots of loads going up)? Because it seems to me for 200 jumps in a year you don't necessarily need a 2nd rig if your dropzone does a decent amount of loads on week days.
  4. Yes, Skydive Rotterdam offers tandem jumps. See this link for more info (in English): http://www.skydiverotterdam.com/tandemsprong/en_index.php They also offer AFF and Static Line courses if you want to learn to jump by yourself. http://www.skydiverotterdam.com/opleidingen/en_index.php (static line course is not shown on the English version of the website, but it is available)
  5. Recently got myself a Sony HDR-CX730E and this weekend I made my first jumps with it. Only got to do a few jumps, but so far I'm happy with the performance of the camera. I do not use a wide angle lens, just a UV filter to keep out the dust. A short compilation of in-air and on the ground footage of the day using the camera: https://vimeo.com/69569349 HYPEYE 2011+ worked as advertised, pulling out the viewfinder allows me to switch recording on/off using the HYPEYE.
  6. The CX410 has Balanced Optical SteadyShot (BOSS). The DZ.COM thread on the CX730 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4300214;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread, which also has the BOSS system, suggests that it works well for skydiving. Has anyone else tested this?
  7. Does anyone have any experience with the Sony CX410 in skydiving? I've found some reviews which suggest it's an okay camera and a little bit of footage, but none of it is skydiving related and none of it are direct comparisons with other cameras. I'm looking for a camera that offers a step upwards on video quality as compared to the various action cameras available. The CX730 mentioned above looks awesome, but that one is no longer sold and the EUR 1.000 price tag is a bit outside the range I am looking for. I'm also wondering how the video quality of the CX410 compares to the Gopro Hero 3, as they are roughly in a similar price range.
  8. Hi, I'm looking at some higher end camcorders and I'm wondering if anybody has any experience in using the Panasonic HC-X920 or its predecessor the X900 in skydiving. Based on the reviews I've found it looks like a great camcorder (and a little bit cheaper than the cx7?? series Sony camcorders), but so far I haven't found any reference to this Panasonic camera being used in skydiving. I've only found a lot of old threads saying "don't by Panasonic for skydiving" and I'm wondering whether that still applies. Thanks!
