  1. Thanks a lot for that Douglas! I'll be sure to take some notes "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  2. bah, every time I plan a jumping trip from tahiti to elsinore I always miss something cool like the excel camp by a week and now I also miss this As the others I'd love some sort of transcript, or I'll have to bug the hell out of the people that attended when Im there the next week end ^^ "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  3. 2 new pictures from UPT's Facebook showing how the lines are stowed in the pocket and how it folds up. Nice! http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs428.snc3/24703_372553806148_64761516148_3843734_3671645_n.jpg http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs428.snc3/24703_372553811148_64761516148_3843735_2130481_n.jpg "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  4. Looks like that titan project got dropped a while ago... I am with the original poster on this but think the techno is not just there yet. What would be real nice is a head up display ON the visor of full face helmet, some sort of projection that displays in LARGE digital semi transparent characters your alti at critical / set heights. Now that would be pimp. Just like how some of the cars HUD work, a small box projects the info on the windshield. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  5. Thanks for all the details, I'm sold on getting one on my new Vector! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  6. I guess it just depends on where you are at and what your plans are. I for one plan to stick to a 150-135 once I get there for quite some time. I am more interested in wing suit flying and want something as docile as can be opening up over me. Again I don't have more info on UPT's bag but for example Basik's bags can fit 2-3 different sizes much like regular bags. What I understood is that too big a canopy in one of those could put more stress on the tuck tabs, too small of a canopy and the tuck tabs might be on the loose side. 7. Another thing I really like about the stow pocket idea is that I always found rather sketchy how you need to twist around the dbag into the container before closing it, and how the stowing loop ends just dangle around and are just begging to get stuck somewhere in your risers, leftover lines and what not. See the mess I'm talking about? :) Maybe it's just cause I have only 70 jumps and a couple months in the sport, but I'm sure it could be a whole lot more tidy in there and that stowing pouch sure does the trick :) "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  8. If your drive home from the DZ with the altitrack involves any kind of mountain road you should have it off. My buddy forgot his and when we got home it had turned into jump mode as if we were on the way to altitude. I guess it could even "log" your drive home if you really changed altitudes fast enough hahaah Just a quick note ;) "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  9. Getting to line stretch faster will not make for a harder opening. Means you will loose less altitude for the same opening shock if anything. What does is an out of sequence deployment that can be caused by a bag dump, ie your canopy gets out of the bag before line stretch. On the UPT/Basik design they still have classic locking stows, so no real difference in bag dump chances. At least that's how I understand the role of the dbag and line stows... 10. Thanks for the info Lou, can't wait until more people start putting jumps on those to see how the tuck tabs wear out. I am in the process of ordering a Vector and am seriously looking into the stowless bag option. Do you know if this is something they also plan to sell separately as a retrofit or upgrade? 11. They have the 2 locking stows. The lines are then S folded like the reserves line on the side of the dbag then a flap covers them up. Looks like UPT is using tuck tabs, or maybe it is magnets... Some guys in europe make the mPod that is all magnets, no locking stows, there is the lazy bag that is along the UPT design, locking stows and tuck tabs for the lines cover flap, then you have Basik's bag that has locking stows and a magnetic line pocket instead of tucktabs. 12. Some of you might have seen it on UPT's facebook, they came up with a couple new options like a stowless Dbag, low drag risers and french hardware. I am happy to see one of the main mfg with a stowless D-Bag as an option. This used to be something you would only see on euro rigs. I think Sunpath tried it for a while but found that you could only really fit one size canopy in these. Anyone has any feedback on the UPT stowless bag, maybe from the Expo? 13. Hey everyone! I had so much fun doing it that I felt like sharing Here is a little video edit I did of a very fun jump I had during my last jumping trip at Elsinore. http://vimeo.com/9513660 So Luc got us jumping together, and was wearing a GoProHD so we could get some cool footy. It was my first 4 way and 3 way linked exit. I am in black and white with the mamba in the video, Chris is wearing a black and red jacket, he is a really good paraglider from Austria who just got into skydiving, he has about 80 jumps (one of his Speed Flying video: INSANE http://vimeo.com/8437111). And the other jumper is Phil, a really cool guy from Switzerland with about 60 jumps I think. And me standing proud on my 44 jumps haha. So we had the perfect international noob dream team ready for Lucas to handle Here is how it went down The exit was really cool and funny, we almost had it but Chris kinda kept his hand on my chest strap so Phil ended up struggling for grip and starting doing a bronco hahah good times lol. I can also now see in the video how straight my legs are on exit. I *think* it was kinda on purpose I thought better have forward pressure on my mates and my legs in the hill would flip us to belly faster right? No idea if I made things worse Well, then we got real stable in a now two link and broke it up to try to reform. I started going for Luc (camera) and he pointed me towards Phil so we tracked together towards him, that was awesome!!! We managed to reform into a 3 way star, my first ever formation!!! You can see in the video that I keep staring at my alti thats because I am trying to read it between Luca's fingers lol. When that happens I should look right for someone else's alti? I could also have just waited for break off I guess. Then we broke it off and I had the coolest track. For the first time I had to have my head on a swivel. As we did the star I had lost visual track of Chris that never caught up. So I was looking back right and left as I was tracking for the first time really. Man it is just INSANE to look between your legs and see Luc track away, have a look to the left and see Phil... Crazy sights that are now engraved!! Ahh sorry for the wall of text. I found that my recollection of what happened on the jump was worth sharing as I had such a blast doing it. Man I'm badly hooked, please help "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  14. Other mains that are known to pack smaller are the PD Pulse and the Pilot in ZPX. I guess those 2 should fit where an Electra fits. "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  15. Thanks guys Yeah I can't wait until we do our first jump together, will be EPIC haha I hope the weather clears up in SoCal next week, I hope to get a bunch of jumps during my trip there! Weather is even worse here, a hurricane passed pretty close to us last night. Nothing too crazy but some pretty good gusts of wind!! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  16. Another hilarious tandem jump: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ8TsLR-tHo The guy is really scared sh**less!!! I think he is actually crying towards the end... I love how the TI tries to make jokes to have him relax lol "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  17. really, really cool movie, thanks for sharing!! "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  18. Hey guys :) New here as well, finishing my A in Elsinore too!! :) I will be there jumping for 9 days in a week, see you on the DZ then haha "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  19. Hey everyone! Been lurking the boards since I started jumping in november so I figured I could introduce properly I'm doing my AFF in Elsinore, just a few jumps shy of my A now. Waiting on a new plane at the DZ in Tahiti so I hope I can be in SoCal often until then!!! Been into a lot of "extreme" sports and I must admit that jumping is by far the best adrenaline rush so far ^^ Of course I wanted my girlfriend to give it a try, but turns out she did not want to a tandem... she wanted to wear her own rig, felt safer that way She is now at AFF level 7 in just 4 days of jumping!!! Here is a little remix video I did of her AFF 6,7 and my AFF 6 with some solo and hop n pop exits. Hope you guys like it :) http://vimeo.com/9119169 Cheers and blue skies!!!! 20. Dude I'm ordained! So that means I can now be Dudeist Skydiver #9 Checked the list, number should be dude free "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  21. Really cool idea Gary! What he means by 17 to 22 are probably the minutes of a cloack face. If your hand is a clock and the fingers point to 0, then pointing the camera towards your thumb would be around pointing it to 20 minutes, pointed towards your arm would be 30. Well that's how I got his number thing, I might be off lol "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  22. Actually I'm in Tahiti so the US is much closer to me and california is where I jump. But yes I am also looking into Basik's rigs and canopies :) Also the V310 should fit a PD R 143 in a standard fitting, which is the same pack volume as an Optimum 160 from what I've read. Do you have first hand experience with a Optimum 160 not fitting in a V310, I'd be bummed if that's so Edit: thx for clearing up the fact that the 160 and up Optimum are not TSO certified yet, let's hope they get it soooon :) "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  23. I am looking for a rig right now and considering different options. I am about 175 exit weight and almost 6' so pretty close to the average jumper. I want a rig that would last me as long as possible even maybe for the rest of my skydiving career! I know I want to do wingsuit jums, not only that but a lot of them for sure, and as soon as I feel safe doing so (I know the 200 jumps mark and actually plan on waiting longer than that). I know I'll want a docile and easy canopy for that and with a reasonable wing loading. I am not a swooper at heart so a wingload of 1.3:1 should be fine. So my smallest canopy for WS would be a 135. Thats the bottom part of my main canopy range. I would only see myself going smaller if I got into hardcore swooping and I seriously doubt it :) And then I'd surely want one of those tiny V306 and down I will be most likely jumping a 190 after I graduate (jumping a 220 now and stood up all landings on it in no wind conditions) so I can downsize safely to a 1:1 170 while I wait for my rig to be done. So 170 main is the upper part of my main canopy range. Turns out the Micron V310 might be a solid option for a long-term beginner rig. You can easily fit a Pulse/Pilot ZPX 170 with an Optimum 160 in there. I'll make sure I jump the optimum 160 as a main before I actually start using the rig and not rental stuff anymore, so I can feel confident landing it :P I can then safely downsize to 135 for a 1.3:1 wl while keeping a 160 reserve and keep my custom new first rig for a loooong time. So using the right type of canopy you can fit in the V310: 170, 150, 135 mains. I know that's one less than the I5 but you get a smaller rig that could very well be the only one you need to buy. Trick is to do your first downsize on rental stuff while your rig gets made :) Opinions? "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  24. Then please riddle me that: lost over 1000ft of structure in 10 seconds... Isn't that pretty damn close to free fall starting from zero speed? How is that significantly slower? "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
  25. Zero "At 9:58:59, the South Tower collapsed in ten seconds" from the 911 commission report: http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Ch9.htm edit: Actually to be fair there had to be some structure left at the bottom, so let's just say that the delta is 1000ft, thats 300ft left of structure which is most likely an over estimate. Still 1000ft lost in 10 seconds sounds a lot like freefall in thinner air than at sea level no? "Common sense is not so common" - Voltaire Dudeist Skydiver #9
