  1. As a Christian, I believe that God gave us the right of free will. I believe that steams to all areas, including the right not to believe in God, in the right to choose which religion you do want to believe in, etc. As far as a government telling you that it is ok to do something to someone because they don't believe what you believe, then if falls to you to either believe the government or your one conscience. Unfortunately, as history has shown, humans tend to make those decisions badly. It's up to each indivivdual to get information and make their own choices. Me, I don't trust the governments very much. They lie too much, and twist everything to their benefit. Also, I find it really interesting that the muslims and Christians have such big problems with each other. Seeing as how we are both branched from the same religion (Judism). We just took it to two different arenas. It's also unfortunate that people tend to judge people on their differences, before you get to know them or the truth. Because in most cases, if you try to understand, you find out that you were wrong to begin with. I think most people just don't like to admit that they are wrong, and that causes a lot of friction in society. Leading to a lot of bad things, like war. (altough there are exceptions to the war thing, sometimes it's inevitable, unfortunately)
  2. I think in that instance that the parents should be charged with something. Heck you can't even be in a car accident without getting at least getting charged with failure to control, or safe distance or something. I would love to smack parents like that over the head. I have a 4 year old, and I don't even leave markers or scissors where he can reach them, let alone a loaded gun! That is a recipe for disaster. I don't think that anything loaded should be kept lying around. Guns should also be kept out of a childs reach. That doesn't mean they need to be locked up, or have locks on them though. All the guns we have are in kept up high where he can't reach them. Are never left loaded, and are in a room he is not allowed to be in unless we are there with him. We baby gate it off, just to keep him from going in there, even though it really isn't needed for his age. You have to be a responsible parent, especially if you want to keep guns in your home. You also have to be prepared to teach your children to handle them safely, so they understand that they aren't toys to be played with. I am actually more scared of children from other families coming to my home and getting into things they are not supposed to, because I know my son won't. I also tell any parent that brings their child to my home (especially for the first time), that hey, there are guns in that room, make sure your kids don't go in there. Then we all know, and we all can watch. Children are too precious to risk because someone wants to be irresponsible about gun safety. I think if you want to own a gun, you should be responsible about it. It's unfortunate that people can't be adults, and take that responsiblity into consideration. But, it's those people that do take it seriously, and do try to prevent injuries to innocent people, that get shafted by these laws that are put into place, that don't solve the problem. That is why we get so mad. Why should law abiding people be punished? Especially when you know that some criminal, or teen gang member is gonna be hiding a loaded gun where some little kid can find it, and they don't listen to the laws anyway.
  3. I know for a fact, that I would have chosen death, than to do to those people what was done. I have been to the Israel Memorial Museum. Yes, the one in Israel. They have photos of people after they had been tortured. It's easy to sit and talk about millions of people dying, it is another to see what they went through, and actually get a scope of how many people that really was, and to have faces to go with it. I would suggest that anyone who has the chance to goto one of these museums, to go. It will open your eyes to the horrors these people suffered. I know I couldn't have been part of the torture. I couldn't stand before God, and tell him that I had done that to another person. I would rather have died.
  4. I think the marrying of family members, and the whole animal thing, take it a bit far. But, I did see the humor, and the ironic stretch of reality you placed there. But, some people do consider animals to be almost human. You have actually scared me into thinking about what some humans might consider an appropriate realtionship. Speaking of which. I saw on the news a year or two ago, where in Africa or something, two frogs got married..... Does that count? It was supposed to be some ritual for prosperity or something or other. Hold on, I think I found a couple links to frog marriage..... Just to prove, I am not making this up, here is a link. You have to scroll all the way to the bottom. http://o3.indiatimes.com/palashbiswas/archive/2009/03/27/4962671.aspx Oh, and it's in India, not Africa. They marry two frogs to make a god happy, so it will rain. Here is a more credible looking link. http://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/blogs/wedding-news/page/20090317/Frog-marriage-believed-to-end-north-Indias-dry-spell-.aspx
  5. Firstly, I agree whole heartedly that you should have the right to protect yourself and your family at all times. That no one should be able to tell you that you can't, or how to. Secondly, yes, I would detain someone with a gun, if need be. Otherwise, I don't think they would listen. Third, I think all laws that protect crimals when they are commiting a crime is bad. It is giving them a free pass to do wrong, and that is detrimental to our society. If we were stricter on crime, there wouldn't be so many criminals. Fourth, I am in the state of Ohio. We have concealed carry, btw. But, if someone was to break into my house, (mostly if you live in town) you are required, if possible, to barracade yourself in a room with a phone, or try to get out of the house. If you barracade, you are supposed to yell and warn the person that you are armed, and tell them to leave, and then tell them if they come after you, you will shoot. Won't do anyone any good if they decide to set fire to your house. But, that isn't likely to happen. Now, the laws are really strict about men shooting intruders. They can get in trouble way faster than a woman can. (bias, I know). Basically, if someone would break into our home, and threaten us, I could shoot them, and there would be less reprocussions. They say you have to 'fear for your life' before you can use deadly defense. That being said. My husband asked the local sheriff once about what would happen, if someone broke in where we live, and they said that they really couldn't do anything about us protecting ourselves, because of how far away from town and whatnot we were. So, even with the laws, it is an up in the air issue of your local police forces. They know they can't protect us in the event of something like that happening, so that pretty much tells me we are kinda on our own. But, as I said before, I hope it never happens, and it would take something really serious to make me even think about pointing a loaded gun at a human being.
  6. Technically, I don't think I have to worry about an intruder. I pray to God I will never have to. About running to the neighbor's, that could be a mile or more for me to find someone that is even home. I live in the middle of no where, almost literally. We have dogs that would alert us to anything that is going on. I generally worry more about shooting a coyote or rapid dog or random animal that wonders into my yard, or threatens my 4 year old, than actual people. I would know they were here, before they could get to us. Some people aren't that luck though. Yes, it is very presumptuous to assume that you can just shot someone and get away with it, because it doesn't work that way. There are laws about warning, and baracading before you can actually fire at someone. It is best to know what laws are there to protect you in your state. Where I live though, police would never make it before someone could get hurt. Mainly my family. So, I would rather be prepared for something that will prolly never happen, than have it happen and someone I care about get hurt. My first resort would be to detain the intruder. Hopefully, that would work. The laws for the peoples that live in cities where the gun laws are very restictive, are the areas where you have to worry about getting attack, and worry about people possibly being so hopped up on drugs or something not to care about someone being home or not. Those people need to be able to protect themselves. Note: I value human life very high, it would take something super serious before I would even consider pointing a loaded gun at a human being. But, I have the knowledge to handle guns safely. The punk that breaks into someones house, has probably never even fired a gun. That makes him way more dangerous.
  7. My first instinct was to say nuc'em'all! But, I like this idea better. Let China fight the war, and take them over. :)
  8. I would assume the same as most other states. Except, more people, means more taxes paid, which means more money that has been lost. It's called common sense!
  9. It would only take a matter of moments for a criminal to break into most homes. If nothing else, windows are breakable. Everyone seems to think that the cops will be there instantly when they call 911. Well guess what? It takes about the same amount of time to grab a gun and the phone, and I can garentee you don't have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for the gun to show up. Where I live, it could take that long or longer for officers to get to my home. You also have to realize that most police forces in the US are getting cut back because of buget cuts. So, there could be less officers to reply to your call. What if there are only say two on duty; one is across town; one is already taking care of something important like an deadly car accident. Now, you are at home, with someone breaking, or already in your house, and you have to wrangle with the gun lock, or worse, you don't even own a weapon to use to defend yourself..... What are you gonna do? Grab a knife, which will prolly just piss the criminal off when you can't seriously injure him, just hurt him a little? Grab the baseball bat, and smack him silly, and later be sued and pay his hospital bills? I think you need to seariously think about your perception of reality. Crime happens to random people, who don't expect it. It isn't paranoid to be prepared. It is being smart.
  10. All I am saying is that Arnold doesn't make a very good governor. He has a state with a massive population, which means a lot of tax money coming in, and he is loosing money left and right. I think if the state wants more money, that comes from all of us, that they should appoint a finacial advisor that has a history of accounting, and can do something affective about getting the state out of trouble. I really don't think they should get any more money though. Every state is hurting, and having budget cuts. We are all suffereing. I would say that probably most states have had to take some money. But, they all need to use it for a good cause. I think that Obama has a lot of his promises yet to fulfil. I didn't vote for the guy. I don't think he is handling anything overly well. He keeps giving out money. It is just gonna make us worse off in the long run. If he has his way about gun bans and whatnot as well, he will be putting more of the American economy at risk. Because it would affect factories and jobs that still excist in this country. I don't know, I am just not impressed so far, and don't know what is going to happen in the future. It isn't looking that great right now.
  11. I live in Ohio, and it is mostly the same here. My husband and I hunt. We live in the middle of no where, so we can shoot in our yard any time we want. Ohio also has concealed carry. So A LOT of laws would have to change here, before anything would get a foot in. It's mostly the big cities, and the highly populated states that suffer from all the restrictive laws.
  12. First off, what was the reason for the illegal search? Unless they had good reason to search his property, he has a good defense. I hope he gets a good lawyer. Also, unless they can PROVE that he had the intent of doing someone harm with the ammo, they are pissing in the wind. I think they are just trying to make a big stink, to pass an ammo limit law. I don't know how many rounds are in my house. I guess I will have to count, and find somewhere to barry the excess, so that when they come to ILLEGALLY search my home, I will be prepared. But, because of the rising cost of ammo, and the thinning of the shelves at the stores, it is no wonder that people are stocking up. On, 'the right to bear arms', I read and interesting article in the American Rifleman magazine a few months back. That that was put in the Constitution, to protect a right that we had before the Constitution. Basically, we had the right before, but we will stick this in just to make sure no one will decide to mess with it later. I will have to look through my hubs stack of back mags to see if I can find the article. It was really, really good. :)
  13. It also shows that they know that they could need it in a moments notice. Isn't it nice that they are allowed to protect themselves and their families, but they can take you downtown for doing it for you and yours?!
  14. I would personally like to thank everyone that offered to let me interview them. I have a couple willing people, and that is all I really need right now. Thank you, also, for putting up with someone that has never jumped, poking around and asking questions. :p
  15. Although, since doing the research, I am completely facinated by the sport, my health and other issues prevent me from doing it right now. I might someday. As to my interest for this article. I saw a show on the History channel: Modern Marvels Super Human Education. They did a little part on Wingsuits, and I thought it was really cool and interesting! I thought that skydiving would be a fascinating sport to teens, and so I decided to write the article. It seems to me, to be a sport that could have a very promising future, and has a lot of room for imagination, and growth. Can you imagine what an article that reached thousands of teens could do for the future? It could be tremendous. I also have a 4 year old little boy, and hope that he would be interested in such fun and exciting sports in the future!
