  6. For those that may be interested...... There will be a couple of swoop comps at the Xmas Boogie on 27th and 28th December. If you are planning on competing in the Aussie Canopy Piloting Nationals in Feb then this would be a good practice event for you. Start time will be late afternoon, 5pm-ish. 27th - 2-3 rounds of Speed 28th - 2 rounds each of Distance and/or Accuracy These will be run using the rules in the APF Sporting Code, as will the Nationals. Classes: Intermediate and Open Gates: 1.5m Minimal Registration Cost NOTE this is not covered in your boogie registration. Register on the day Jump Cost: to be advised Why are we starting so late: 1) so you can boogie jump all day then have a go in the comp in the evenings 2) so we can entertain the hoards at the bar for the xmas boogie 3) there are LOTS of people registered for the boogie, that means a lot of planes and air traffic (canopies) all day EVERY day. We cannot run the competition in the middle of the day amongst all that air traffic. 4) is cooler later in the day This is going to be VERY casual. No Prize Money No Prizes No glory! Well maybe a little.... All Judges out there are more than welcome to come along and get some experience in preparation for the Aussie Canopy Piloting Nationals in Feb Volunteers needed We reserve the right to cancel one or all events due to lack of interest on the day. We will need a minimum number of competitors to get the plane in the air. Maybe see you there.....
  7. If you want to go somewhere warm during winter and want to check out our pond you could come to the Christmas boogie instead. See this post in "Events & Places to Jump": http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2412053;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  8. I did over 1000 180's at wing loadings between 1 and 1.4. At the time I felt like I was overdoing it but now I am very grateful for my patience. When you start doing 180's respect other canopy traffic when flying to your point of manouvre and choosing suitable areas to swoop so you don't cause any traffic issues.
  9. Yup everybody is welcome. Henny from the Netherlands and Attila from New Zealand came to our nationals earlier this year. We do still have qualification here though, 6 runs of a speed course. Qualification is 21/22 Feb. If you have competed in a World Cup or World Meet you should automatically be qualified. Other than qualification we pretty much use the IPC rules. Full rules can be found at http://www.apf.asn.au/publications.aspx There is no purse, this is our nationals. It will not be cold, February is still summer time here.

  16. I recently travelled from Sydney to the US. My rig was in a backpack with my lead and helmet and jumpsuit etc. I checked in the backpack. While in Washington the TSA made me pop my reserve and pull my cypress out. Lucky I had my tools with me to reclose my reserve. I had all sorts of documentation with me but they would not listen. I asked for the supervisor, but I was already talking to him. No matter what I said they still wanted me to pop my reserve. If I was a local I would have kicked up more of a stink but because I was a foreigner I did not want to push my luck too far so I just did it there on the spot in the TSA screening area. Good thing I had turned up 2 hours early for my flight.
  17. I am coming over to the US for the World Cup in October. Unfortunately I think I will miss the US Nationals. Can you please tell me where other than Lake Wales would be a good place to train, which dropzones (especially near Florida) have good ponds and good weather in October, any other swoop comps happening in October etc etc. WOHOOOO!!! Can't wait......
  18. We are organising a 4 way competition for inexperienced teams i.e. jumpers mostly with < 200 jumps. I have looked at a few web sites and handicap systems that are used elsewhere. We have come up with our own handicap system based on jump numbers, we award extra points for the lesser experienced teams. But there is a difference of opinion over whether a handicap (the extra points) should be applied when a team scores a zero (either no scoring formations or just busted back to zero - s... happens sometimes) Some organisers believe that the extra points should not be awarded if a team scores a zero. I believe a handicap is a handicap is a handicap and should be applied regardless of performance on a jump, otherwise the VERY inexperienced teams cannot be competitive. And YES I expect to see a few zeroes during this comp. I would be interested in hearing other opinions.
