  1. For what it's worth - i sent a rig to a well known loft for an escrow transaction on behalf of one of my customers (from the UK to the US)...

The gear was sold and the buyer asked if the rig could be sent to his rigger before he released funds.

The rigger agreed to notify the purchaser once the rig arrived and the purchaser agreed to release the funds.

However once the rig arrived (shipped at our cost) the purchaser then used the fact to try and renegotiate the price!!

So be aware - unless the rigger actually has the money and agrees to release the money upon the arrival of the gear then the seller is actually at a disadvantage in an escrow situation, because they have already committed to the shipping fees! (not a problem locally but UK to US was approx $400)!!!

So it's definitely worth making sure that all of the parties are onboard and that the escrow agent ACTUALLY HAS THE CASH (or at least a significant part in case the other party defaults or tries to pull a similar stunt)!!

Anyway all American skydivers be on the alert for another Russian scammer to move into the states shortly. No way he will do 3 years bankrupt in Australia

It appears that you have answered your own question by telling everyone that Serg was heading for America...

And you say that he is 'another Russian scammer' - how many do you know or are you implying that all Russians are scammers??

If you do find him please remind him that he still owes me $1... :)

  3. Hmm - i guess the UK's a little smaller and we tend to ask questions.

If someone wants to buy something it's fairly easy here to ask around and get a 'reference' from the person's mentor.

I'm sure that someone will sell you used gear if you look hard enough, but 'caveat emptor'.

  4. I would suggest taking a look at the typical size of canopies used in the following disciplines...

    BASE Jumping / Accuracy

Often these disciplines require someone to land in a specific tight landing area - the canopy of choice in both disciplines is significantly larger than those generally used in skydiving.

As everyone else has said - take some time, take a canopy course and if possible see if there's anyone locally who can explain the reasons behind the canopies chosen for BASE or Accuracy...

And FWIW - try to slow down and listen to those with 1000's more jumps than you as they may have something important to share with you... B|

  5. Shipping a rig fully insured can easily cost £150 - £220 ($240 - $350) depending on your chosen method.

I'm afraid that i'm not 100% certain on the tax aspect, but your local tax office should be able to give you an idea...

The alternative is to ask around and see if anyone could bring the rig over on their next visit to the US.

Usually if you offer someone $100 - $160 they'll happily forfeit some of their luggage space and can even possibly drop it off at a nearby DZ.

There are a whole bunch of people heading over to the US from the UK over the next few months ...

You could ask on one of the irish websites or try www.ukskydiver.co.uk which is the main UK site

  6. I wonder why Drift state a maximum of 'class 6'?

I have used several 'class 10' cards with the Drift without any problems (so far)...

Meanwhile the stealth looks to be a great update and we will now be including it in our helmet packages...

Once again I am biased but given the choice of Go Pro / Drift (Stealth) / Contour i know which one i wouldn't choose based on snag potential alone ...

    (Clue it's the Go Pro !!!) ... :P

  7. Hi Tara

Obviously i'm a bit biased because I have supplied a fair number of our Drift Camera Packages now and have had nothing but great feedback ...

A few days ago Brumby wrote to me saying

over the moon with the set up, after each jump i kept checking to make sure the cam was still there with it being so light

Last week Derek a US jumper wrote to me saying

the camera and helmet work great.

Several guys at our DZ use this set-up for fun jumping and are surprised by the lightness and ease of use.

The low profile shape of the Drift helps to reduce the snag risk and top mounting the camera using a low profile bracket / box also helps to keep this risk to a minimum (especially when compared to the Go Pro).

I would still suggest that you use a helmet with a cutaway system for safety though ...

The easy access to the HDMI port for debriefs using a TV or to dump the footage easily onto your PC plus the option to take a quick look on the camera screen without having to take it off the helmet all help to make this a great camera for fun jumping ...

    Hope this helps!

  8. Hi James

Congrats on doing your AFF ...

If you can survive the winter then Summer is going to seem tropical :P

You might be better getting a used jumpsuit to start with until you know exactly what you want from a suit...

You can usually find some here on dz.com / at your DZ and on ukskydiver.co.uk

    Regards

And you know exactly how many dealers they have in the UK how? Your comment is completely without basis in this circumstance.

At the moment none - but that is also because the last time i spoke to them their product was not CE marked which is a legal requirement if you want to sell Eyewear and most other products in the UK / Europe ...
