  1. So, if he were to wrap the $$ in the canopy then bury it, do you think it would provide any protection?
  2. Anyone know if the material used for the round parachute rots? (I think it's Lo-po vs F111.) Anyway, I would think that nylon would be pretty rot resitant. Cooper could have wrapped the bundles in the parachute?
  3. Or perhaps even split up the loot into several hiding places just incase one gets discovered.
  4. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I wasn't suggesting that he burried it in the sand at Tenas bar. Perhaps he burried it in the hills (or behind/under some object) and later rains washed it out. Then, after the bag broke during the travels, one or two bundles got washed up in the sand and re-burried (post 1974).
  5. Then there's that third option of he jumped and stashed the money only to loose track of where he stashed it. Then later, the whole bag is washed away and a bundle or two gets stuck in the sand downstream. I've known of base jumpers to stash their rigs after a jump so that they can casually walk out, only to be unable to re-find them later. That's gotta suck.
  6. Are you thinking about buying one? Perhaps others could answer, but at perhaps it isn't a wise canopy choice for you.
  7. Just a note on the CJ5's.. I've got a 71 and learned a fair amount in the process... The usual assumption is that jeep parts are easy to find. Not so true for years 68-71. From 72 -76 isn't bad and from 76+ the parts got relatively cheap and easy to find.. If you plan on going places with more than one person or plan to pack lotsa gear, you'll find that you run out of space quickly in the 5. The 7's simply provide larger cargo space and bigger doors for bigger people gettin in em.. The CJ5s areconsiderably smaller(wheelbase) than just about anything out there. Good if you need to get into teeny places and good for 4 wheeling clearance, bad for city driving stability and a bit scary on steep rutty hill climbs.. Of course then there's always the challenge of finding a jeep that hasn't been absolutely thrashed, rollled and rusted.. I've got both a 47 cj2a and a 71 cj5.. enjoy..
  8. At around 200 jumps. I was a sit pilon for an indy 500 race. We decided that it would be nice if the pilons had about 8 feet of 2 inch webbing to hold out as streamers.. I tied a loop in the webbing and put it around my hand. So you guessed it.. At deployment, the webbing wrapped up in my lines and gave me a horrific opening. Lucky I didn't mal... So there I was with one hand stuck up in my risers with webbing that you could tow a car with... Finally got my hand out of the webbing, but I couldn't get it out the lines before landing.. Spent so much time trying to fix it I landed ~significantly~ out.. Lesson: ANYTHING you add to a skydive has the potential of killing you...
  9. Here's a general response to this thread.. Take a look in the incidents forum and see what the skydiving community has to say about the seller when someone with low jump numbers and an agressive canopy gets broken...
  10. They're good. Cause it hurts like hell when you try to mount a camera to your skull... Keeps your goggles & audible on good too.. They're also somewhat helpfull when your'e in a sit and somebody [name withheld] flies headdown right over the top of you, get's sucked right into the burble for a saweeeet head 2 head freefly collision.. When you can see stars after that, it's easy to be convinced that it was a good day to wear a helmet..
  11. I used to put a Sabre 120 in my RS1. It was tight , but it was in there.. Not uncomfortable and looks fine. Now I've got a XAOS 98 in there and it fits about the same. All with a PD113.. Edited to PD113
  12. I just thought that it was funny cause I went through the same stuff trying to figure mine out.. It's great now with absolutely no complaints.. In no way saying anything negative about Precision. I abolutely love my XAOS..
  13. Just going back through some old stuff. I had this EXACT thing happening to me with my Xaos 98 loaded at ~2.0. I had put about 150 jumps or so on it without any problems. Then I started getting the openings that were exactly like the video. Opened up straight & on heading, then wham.. turns right and dives so fast that it puts slack in the lines and it would actually trow me into a roll in the opposite direction. I got the the point where I'd be trying to counter it using A LOT of the opposit rear riser, but it would still take off. Anyhow, I found that my left leg strap was slipping, so I stopped that (which helped but did not eliminate the issue). The lines were getting old, so I had precision reline it and problem gone.. Back to sweet soft on heading openings.. funny video though, I've got one that looks exactly like it.. I was having lots of problems, but only one chop from it..
  14. I've got a Xaos-21 98 in my RS.1 with a cypress and a 113. It fits tight, but it's in there.. Not sure how much bigger the 27 packs..
  15. I regularly drag my right foot as well and suck the surf down deep in the grass. Typically, I wear Tevas and I've lost a bit of skin on quite a few occasions.. Starting to build up calluses though. I was over in Davis a week or two ago and drug my food through some dry grass. I looked down after the surf and had little blood dots all over my foot. I actually pulled a piece of dry hay (looked like a cactus needle) out of the top of my foot. It was in there about a quarter of an inch.. ~switched to vans~ screw that cactus grass…
