I think the difference of 100 jumps to 200 jumps, isn't going to make you any better at dealing with a camera malfunction. You may fly better, but tossing your helmet off in the event of a line catching won't improve after even 500 jumps. If you're comfortable in the air after 70 jumps, why not fly with a camera? If you aren't trying to film a group or get that "money shot", I think it's ok. If you are filming and act as a real camera man, I think 200 jumps is a good recommendation.
All of this is opinion of course because who's to say what is or isn't better? Imagine if you told Jordan to wait 400 games before driving to the hoop. In short, not everyone is on the same level, so I don't think numbers should reflect that. Kind of like waiting 200 jumps to sitfly. I disagree on that one as well. I do respect peoples opinions though, but they are just that, opinions.

    thanks for your info:)

wow this forum helps and stuff but people should really learn how to read posts and then reply to them....i didnt ask how to turn it off or turn it on, i know how to do that, im just asking what the match value menas or why you have to match it to turn it off, why is it 20 to start off with?? and you wrote to turn the backlight on push the right front button, puch the right button on the front, when the gren light comes on push and hold the "SQUARE" button on the front until it goes off, that makes no sense right there, 1st there isnt no square button on the front, and i push the right button 20 times in different ways and no backlight goes on

The match value is just a random value you must match to activate the function (turn off and erase the logbook are the functions that use it). The reason for it is to avoid activating the protected functions by misstake or by someone who doesn't know how to use the unit and just presses some buttons.

Backlight on/off and altitude adjustment are done just like how a protrack is activated for configuration. Press one of the front buttons once and when the green light turns on, press the same button again and hold it until the green light goes out. Which button does what, I don't remember, but the manual and the summary page tells. The unit will leave these adjustment modes after some timeout. If the altitude was adjusted it will enter flight-mode and no longer automaticly adjust the height until after a jump or some hours.

Now that helps, thank you very much for going into detail what the match value is:)

Turning it off is actually pretty easy. Push and hold the square button on the back until you get a display that says BEEP and some other stuff. Push the left arrow once, you will get a display that says OFF in the upper left and has a number on the right and zero on the left. Push the left arrow button until the number on the right matches the one on the left and push the square button. This turns in off. You have to do this so you don't turn it off by mistake.
To turn the backlight on, push the right button on the front. When the green light comes on, push and hold the square button on the front until it goes off. Then push the left button once. The backlight is now on.
    Like the first reply says...RTFM!!!

A better choice might be to buy a simple Protec for now and worry about a camera helmet when you're ready to start flying a camera.

Even once you are flying a camera, there will be times when you'll want to jump without it. It's not simple to remove camera mounts from a helmet. Having a basic helmet for those times is a good thing.

Not to mention the fact that by the time you reach 200 jumps there will probably be two or three newer, neater helmets on the market...

thats what everyoe is telling me, im gona buy this helmet for now, but not slap a camera on it until i am allowed to jump with one, but all im asking if this is a good helmet to buy not minding the camera based part....

  7. I Just got off AFP and starting to do solo jumps...i need to buy a helmet and was wondering if the Optik Illusion is a good one to buy , i want a camera based helmet since i will be doing video when i get to the 200 jump minimum for flying with a camera.....so is this a good camera based helmet to buy??

make sure you speak with someone before you make the drive. I was at Sebastian last week and saw most of the staff and planes there.

every post i made stated that i live 3 hours away. waiting until they opened would be pointless.....
the only way worth gong is if i leave my house 4 hours b4 it opens

They are usually closed Monday and Tuesday in the winter. I'd try again tomorrow after 10 am.

the thing is i live 3 hours away, so if i waited till 10 to call id get there at 2 which would suck with traffic......so that means only 2 jumps.....i think im gona takje the risk and leave here at 5

  10. I just started jumping and recently got done with afp, im not gona buy this camera to jump withit tomorrow since i know i cnat, but i wanna buy something now just to video tape a few car races we have and random things, but when i do get 200 jumps i woudl love to videotape jumps with it, which sony camera shoudl i get, pc1000??, money really isnt an issue since i will finance it from best buy or circuit city!! :)

i was thinking maybe this camera??
