Investigators were then left with a cross section of her previously deleted emails which again showed nothing damning. The grounds for investigating don't necessarily work like that. You start looking into it "investigating" and THEN you gain evidence. Sure, you can start with a dead body or someone handing over something like emails between campaign members and other parties but it's not needed. If the mayor of your town fired the police chief after the police chief was looking into something relating to the mayor and he said something to the effect that he fired him because of that thing... I'll let you take it from there. In this case they were just doing their due diligence. Let's say they found something that compromised national security, you would probably want them to do something about that right? First off. There is no evidence currently tying Trump to Russia. So obviously there was no evidence at the time Trump fired Comey after Rosenstein recommendation to do so.
