the canopy now feels a (20-5) = 15kt wind from the right. The canopy will turn right into this relative wind

I think the opposite is true: the canopy doesn't turn into [suddenly changed] relative wind, it turns away from it. If the former was true, the gusts will have self-stabilizing effect on canopy, while I haven't experienced such an effect or saw it once: sideways gusts always push the canopy in the direction of the gust.

Everyone experienced this, but here's a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1bFXlwfs9Q at 1:39.

The root of this effect is in different dynamic characteristics of the canopy and the pilot: gust coming from the right will quickly push canopy to the left and tilt it due to its low mass, while the pilot stays in place, so the canopy turns left.

The landings in that video are fawking scaaaaary!

  2. Are there any online sources for replacement Sony accessories aside from paying waaaaaay to much from Sony?

I need a docking station from my Sony PC350 and the only ones I can seem to find on ebay are shipping from China.

What about batteries? Are the Sony models the best quality, or are there some aftermarket models that are tried and true?

    Thanks! :)

I am so glad this isn't another "Oh shit, my Car!" thread . . .

Funny... I thought the same exact thing.

  4. Honesty at all cost.

I have gone as far as to tell the butcher at the supermarket that they tagged the expenisve rack of lamb as ground beef.

The store policy would have let me go right up there and get a $17/lb product for 3 dollars a pound. But it was some ones honest mistake that they would have had to deal with, and it just isn't right.

I am NOT an instructor and therefore hardly qualified to dismiss someone from our sport based solely on prejudice

Must be interesting living in your watercolor wonderworld where noticing obvious limitations is a "prejudice."

Note: I hope you don't write an angry response to this message. You don't really know my socio-economic history or cultural vantage point. Dismissing my comments without adequate background would be judgmental and prejudicial, which would be really bad.

Do you have anything better to do than to constantly cast judgement on the people who post on this site?

Seriously, it is mind numbing. I don't think I have read one thing from you yet where you aren't trying to piss and moan about a specific poster, or the posters on dz.com as a whole.

We get it. Your post are more worthy that the rest of the posts on this site. Your opinions more well thought, and more noble. You sir are an internet hero, and real life god's gift to the world. :S:S:|

    Get a fucking life!!!!

  6. Terry, in your personal opinion would you take a quick packjob in grass and direct sunlight, over a shaded but well worn tarp?

Our packing areas are all covered with tents, but the mats are shot. :S

Until now when I read your post I had never considered that they could be bad for my canopy . Thanks!

  7. I can't say if they are similar but I was very happy with the jumps I put on the demo that aerodyne sent me.

It opened great. Couldn't say enough good things about the openings, even when loaded way way up with weights doing my best fat student impression.

It was a little more peppy then your older style student canopies, but not overly so. I think it would offer a good frame of refrence for students moving down to an intermediate canopy like a pilot or safire.

If you do a search you will see the post that I made about the Solo. It recieved a number of good responses.

As a general rule, if you can't see someone's 3 rings from the front, it's worth questioning them I think:)

Any jumper that would pack that, throw it on his or her back, and then jump it doesn't need a collin's lanyard. They need an attitude adjustment and possibly a set of golf clubs. :S

I have consider myself lucky to have caught a few misrouted chest straps on other jumpers, but that... that is a whole nuther level of complacency. :|

  9. It is worth what ever some one will pay for it. ;)

Start by calling an Aerodyne distributor and seeing if Aerodyne has any stock canopies available for order, and if so what is the current price. There is often a price break between custom and stock, and that would be a good starting point since your basically selling a used "stock" canopy. It is only custom when you get to pick the colors.

Price it a little below the stock price and see what you get. 53 jumps isn't a lot of jumps for a line set, and it definetly isn't a lot of jumps for a zp canopy.

If there aren't any Pilot canopies of that size in stock you may not have to sell at much of a discount; some people won't want to wait for the lead time for a new one to be made.

  10. It might be more noteworthy if you actually had some information to provide.

Did they land with the plane because they had an open reserve container onboard, or were they already landing with the plane and the unit fired in the process?

If you got your ticket to earn some cash or to offset your jumping costs, than shame on you! Your not doing anyone a favor and sooner or later your going to have to live with the consequences of your actions.

    Huh? :|

What is wrong with wanting to supplement your jumping income. If you have a love for gear and all of its mechanics I don't see the harm in getting money from it.

    Maybe I misunderstood your point.
