Wow, I feel really dumb. I used my GI Bill for College. Now I spend sunny days at the DZ wishing I had enough Cash for another jump, wondering how the Hell am I gonna pay for my first rig since my license is pretty much right around the corner. I used my GI bill up in the late 80-s/early 90's. I'm glad to see that the new breed of Soldier has a MUCH Better Sense of Priorities!!! Congrats! Blue Skies! tc

Hey there! Think about your pals in the US. Frontier Skydive in the Niagara Falls region My family's in Buffalo, Ny and we think of all of Ontario as a very close neighbor I'm hoping to get up there and visit my family soon...( I.e. excuse to jump at that DZ) I hear the view of Niagara Falls is awesome when we jump from there..... I have a co worker who's dad is a regular jumper at that DZ and it shouldn't be too far from you, I hope. Blue Skies!

Marv, I gotta start with you, cause it's your thread! ( And I hope ya don't mind but I'd like to say hi to two others too,,,) i.e Aggy and Skymama Dude, The Wind Tunnel is Awesome, and well worth the time. Rookies like us benefit immensely from it. Seasoned pros still go there to hone their skills. I live in VA. Jump from Skydive Orange, VA and I took the time to go to Skyventure in Orlando, FL. It was Worth every penny and the time it took to go down there. There was many a time that weather wouldn't let me get up and I was getting REALLY frustrated but my DZO convinced me that I'd get more out of the Tunnel then I would just doing a tandem "only to get some freefall time" I was soooooo tired of being grounded due to winds/ clouds/ whatever.... Part of the sport as we all learn I was pretty unstable on my first couple of dives and my jumpmasters said that I'd benefit from the tunnel ( IF I chose to go...They didn't say I HAD to.) I figured going to Florida is never a Bad thing so I booked a trip cause our weather sucked pretty badly at the time.... I'll never regret it and can't wait for my next tunnel trip. You are pretty close to Florida..go for it man! Skymama, Are ya healed up? Blue Skies!!!

Hi there and WELCOME! Like Flyangel said, don't worry 'bout the weather. I only have five jumps but it's not for lack of effort. The sky/work/stuff/ doesn't seem to cooperate... The point is ( from rookie to rookie) There WILL be days you can't jump, for whatever reason. But you will be able to learn SO much at the DZ from your "Senior Classmates" and Instructors. If you ever get grounded due to weather, there's a pretty good chance there is someone around who is willing/able/qualified to teach you something else you will need a bit further down the road. I have had the good fortune to learn GROUND Training for Categories C, D, and a bit of E while waiting for better weather...I love hanging out at my DZ. ( Hooray for Skydive Orange!!!!! ) but I hope you'll have better weather than we do Whether I'm watching more senior jumpers flare, or pack, I'm always picking up something useful. I've found this sport to be addictive and one thing I've heard from everyone, with no exceptions so far... is that no matter how many jumps you have, you'll always be learning. So bottom line from Mr. Overtalkative, enjoy every trip to your DZ even if ya don't get up there in the air. Blue Skies!

I'm going to the DZ again next week! I just spend Friday and Saturday there.. BOTH DAYS were TOOOOOOOO Windy... On Friday, the plane never even left the Ground and on Saturday the only people up were tandems... We had a big thing going on with the local Radio Station. JUMP FOR THE KIDS. ( I'm not exactly sure what we were raising the $$$ for, but we did a great job and got 80 Tandems up in the air. Anyway, I'm ok (Physically) heheh and I hope to see u at the DZ sometime soon?

Hey Bart, T.C..... Also from Orange. Still Cat C. Had a Car Accident. May be out for a while. Also may be deploying to Iraq. still waiting to hear from the Army. Don't know when I'll get up there again, but Nate ( WONDERFUL GUY THAT HE IS) said he'll ferry me out to Orange now and then to help me stay Current. We'll all get that A license sooner or later.

Thanks to all of you. I'm still quite a way back. Many more jumps to go. I'm afraid of this/that/the other thing. Since I haven't jumped since January 1st...WAY out of currency . I'm up in the air tomorrow. Hopefully 2 or 3 jumps. I've got the cash now. Didn't have the right days off, bad weather, etc. You all know how the sport is. Tomorrow I have the day off. A fist full of cash, and predicted Blue Skies! So, My biggest fear was that I've been out of the Air way too long. Everyone says currency makes it easier for us rookies. The posts I've read here just make me want to jump even more. Thank you all for your encouraging words!!!

I really appreciate your example/analogy. I was an ammunition specialist in the US Army. I've been watching alot of Freefly videos and other cool stuff on SkydivingMovies.com. I've been looking forward to playing with some of that stuff in the air ( Once I'm licensed, have ALOT more experience, etc.) and I wondered about the fall rate of what LOOKED like regular tennis balls and other miscellaneous fun toys....Hmmm. A 20mm DU round. Geez. I wouldn't want that falling anywhere near my DZ. Just shows how much I still have to learn in this sport. I'm really glad i was in here while waiting to jump tomorrow. Frontier Skydive is actually in NY, Near Niagara Falls! So that makes it about 1 and 1/2 hours from Toronto. Not too bad, right?

Hey There! Welcome I'm a little rusty on the Great White North, What province is Burlington in, would it happen to be in/near Ontario? I'm working on my license down here in Virginia, but I'll be jumping in Western New York at Frontier Skydive(less then 1 hour from Canada)during the summer 'cause I've got friends and family up there. (Plus a local Buddy has a Dad up there who is a skydiving junkie and I 'm gonna jump with him while I'm up there. Are you anywhere in that region?

Well I'm hoping to be safe/ Stay safe... I guess the thing I want most is to JUMP!!! ( Our weather forecast is looking pretty grim... Cloudy, Cold AND Breezy) I have the day off. I'll be out there this Saturday, the 12th, as I'm sure many of you will be. The question is, do I get a "Receipt" good for my next jump because the winds/clouds keep us AFF Students on the ground while the #$#!@# Tandems keep getting to go up Wish me luck! Blue Skies!!!

Hey Darlin', Keep your chin up! Lots of us repeat dives! I was told on my First Cat B dive that everything was perfect....if only I'd pulled the chute myself ( I couldn't seem to find the darn thing either) the JM's just kept watching me as we descended. He's got it.. no......he doesn't . Now he's got it...No he still doesn't. Neither JM's wanted to pull for me, I was soooooooooooo close Eventually the altitude was getting too low. A comedy of errors. So I had to repeat. And we know the only thing we really gotta hate about "repeating" dives. Is that we're still paying those higher prices... I just wanna get to Cat E/F and those $70 dives. hehehe

At this rate,... I'll be happy if I get mine in 40! But I will get it, eventually

Welcome Becky! I'm a fellow newb. Five AFF's . It's a bit too cold to jump here in Virginia, too. If you have the time/money, try a warmer drop zone Or...... ya might wanna ask around about Tunnel Time. Most of our "Seniors" highly recommend it ( Right Guys/Gals ?) I'm hoping to do some tunnel time AND Jump in Florida in late March. By the time I get back, it should be almost warm enough to get some jumps in at my regular DZ.. Skydive Orange
